WANTS BUSHNELL SAVED AND RESORTS PREPARE FOR 16

Local leaders urge saving the $12 million army reservation slated for abandonment around June 10 unless it proves adequate as a veteran hospital following evacuation. If investigation confirms suitability, opposition to abandonment will be pursued. Northern Utah resorts Saltair Lagoon and Brighton plan major reopenings and renovations for a busy 1946 season. William F. Stirling, 75, former Milford railroad engineer, died in Salt Lake City after a cerebral hemorrhage. Surviving family includes a widow, four daughters, and nine grandchildren among others. Born in Ontario, Canada, he had worked for Rio Grande Western, Great Northern, Salt Lake and San Pedro, and Union Pacific railroads.

Utah State Press Association Banquet Attended by Governor and Officials

Governor Herbert and Mrs 2 Maw along with Secretary of State E Monson were special guests at the Utah State Press Association banquet held Saturday night at the Newhouse hotel. State officials spoke at sessions including Dr EB Allen Boatman Mark Nichols and Aaron W Tracy. Senator Abe Murdock recently toured Bushnell General Hospital in Brigham City to inspect northern Utah facilities.

Milford Town Board Names Officials and Sets Duties

A full quorum met as President Gronning led the Milford Town Board in appointing key posts including Vernon M. Burns as town clerk, Fred O Leary water master, Sam Cline town attorney and J C Smith town treasurer replacing George Jefferson. Trustees were assigned to supervise water sewers parks buildings recreation finance airport fire and garb age and streets alleys. The board discussed the alley by Union Pagiffy tracks and warned property owners to clean up or face arrests. Trustee Garfield to survey Milford street for repairs and report next session. Lights for the skating pond were approved and installed. Airport facility leasing continued with no final action and Hillman sought hangar leases and possible land for additional hangars.

Youth injured at Milford High in trophy case accident

Roy Hunter was injured at Milford High School last Tuesday when a traveling bag atop an athletic trophy case was pulled down. He suffered multiple broken ribs and a displaced collar bone, and received shock as the case collapsed while he stood on a drawer to reach the bag.

Bridge Night Honors and Prize Winners at local club

Strike vote called at Salt Lake confab

The general grievance committee met in Salt Lake City January 7 18 forming a federation to press strike votes on Oregon Short Line and Los Angeles and Salt Lake units. Walker Cape Cafe Reopens After Redecoration

Boston Land Official Dies at Delta

Wilford Oppenheimer, longtime Boston Land Office official formerly based in Milford, died Friday at Delta. Wife Varda Thomas of Delta, a daughter, survives. Bobbo Oppenheimer, a son, listed among survivors.

Luxembourg pair adopt Milford boys grave

A Luxembourg couple adopted the grave of Sergeant Bud Baxter, killed in the Battle of the Bulge, and sent a heartfelt letter to his family. They described the peaceful cemetery with 5000 white crosses, expressed sympathy, and vowed to place flowers, praying for him and for the relatives.
