Associated Civic Clubs Hold Big Meeting At St George

The Associated Civic Clubs of Southern Utah held a two day convention in St George with about 150 attendees including mayors and county officials. Major 1084 campaign projects were adopted including Salina canyon road work to standard specs Wayne Wonderland national park status and improved northern southern Utah relations via the Salt Lake Chamber. A public banquet featured remarks by Mayor John T Woodbury State Senator George Jefferson and Secretary Benjamin Cameron Jr who lauded club cooperation and set goals for future state influence.

St George area road projects dominate meeting agenda

The St George chamber of commerce and Washington county officials outlined major priorities including gasoline price cuts, rail service restoration on the Denver and Rio Grande line from Salt Lake to Marysvale, and numerous road projects. A Salina canyon and highway 89 plan, scenic circle route proposals, and talks on all year Panguitch to Cedar City routing were discussed, with committees appointed to study airports and airmail routes from Salt Lake to Kingman Arizona.

Victory Rebekah lodge No 42 installed officers led by Noble Grand Suvan Glenn at a Wednesday evening ceremony. Milford Boy Scout leaders Raymond Waston and David Coleman honored at a Relief Society room banquet with VFW EsCalante Port 146 and L C S ward reps in attendance. Adult Courses Offered Locally Under Emergency Act

Under the national emergency relief act adults nationwide may study and train in supervised programs. Milford residents may join through the state education department with Reverend Joyce B Websetur coordinating locally. Courses listed are Bible and Sociology twice weekly and Current Economic Problems on Saturday. no tuition but interest required. Classes meet at the Boy Scout headquarters library and attendance is open now.

Smut Resistant Wheat Tested By Utah Experiment Station

Utah growers track a new smut resistant wheat from Professor D C Tingey after eight years of breeding and testing. The Hussar Turkey cross yields as well as Kanred Goldcoin and Silvercoin in three-year trials. Seed given to farmers in 1930 is now grown on about 600 acres across Cache Box Elder Juab Summit and Mill counties.

Mrs. Wallace Outzen hosted Keith Outzen’s birthday party for twenty children season with games and refreshments. The Legion and Auxiliary held a Saturday night party at the McKnight home with music and games.
