Enrollment Decline Marked in Beaver County Schools

Beaver County school enrollment dips 62 pupils year over year with total 1195 students. Milford High stays at 181, Milford Elementary falls 19 to 286, Minersville rises to 109 from 102, and the County Seat High drops 41 to 261. Belknap and kindergarten counts also fall across districts.

Services Held for Mrs Lucy Holm in Milford LDS Chapel

Funeral services for Mrs Lucy Elizabeth Holm were conducted at the Milford LDS Chapel with Bishop R E Jones presiding. Out of town relatives included Frank Holm and Martin Holm of Salt Lake City, Andrew Holm of Texarkana, Zoanna Black of Pine Valley, Eliza Johnson of Red Mountain, Walter Bozarth of Las Vegas, and Thelma Inman of Salt Lake City.

Don Alger Named to Attend Farm Union Meet

A Donager, president of Milford Valley Farmers Union Local, was elected alternate delegate to attend the Golden Jubilee Convention of the Farmers Union in Dallas Texas March 15. The selection followed the annual conference of Utah Southern Idaho Farmers Union held January 12. Attending from this county were Mr Alger and William Merrill of Beaver.

Three Milford youths left Tuesday evening to report for training with the United States Navy. Jack Bockwelit DeWayne Johnson and Herbert Blake are being processed through the induction station and will begin boot camp as sailors. The Jefferson Mercantile Company resumes local talent broadcasts on KSUB starting January 26 featuring Milford High’s new music teacher Mrs Jerrald McDermott and Milford school talent. Auditions for a 4th broadcast spot are arranged with Mr McDermott, with weekly shows for 13 weeks.

Bids Awarded for U-21 West End Road Work in Utah

More than 35 bids were submitted for two State Road Commission projects in Utah, including 17 miles of hard surface on the Milford E ly route from the Nevada line east through Garrison and Burbank. L T Johnson Construction Co of Ogden won at 261 906 below the engineer s estimate of 273 305. Work to start when weather allows and finish by late spring. An additional 12 miles of hard surface on U-21 is planned from Frisco to Wah Wah Valley in 1952.

Martha Moore Utah Pioneer Dies in California

Martha Jane Moore 83 of Long Beach died Jan 10 after a yearlong illness. A Utah native and longtime resident of Long Beach, she left two daughters Mrs. Horton and Mrs. Snyder, three sons, 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. Survivors include sisters and brothers in Utah and California. Funeral services were held Jan 12 in Long Beach with Bishop William C. Lund officiating. Burial followed at Sunny Side Memorial Park.

Free 4H Tractor School Trip Offer in Cedar City

Birthday Ball Set for Jan 26 in Milford High Gym

The March of Dimes Birthday Ball will be held Saturday January 26 at Milford High School Gym. Milford March of Dimes chairman Warren Johnson notes no expenses, with all proceeds benefiting the campaign fund. The Board of Education lends the gym, Milford High School Orchestra donates services, and The Milford News supplies tickets and ads.

Hammond Named Utah Heart Drive Director

M Daniel Hammond, consumer sales manager of Utah Oil Refining Co Salt Lake division, is named Utah state chairman of the 1952 Heart Fund Campaign announced by Dr L B Viko president of the Utah Heart Association The February drive supports research education and community services for heart and blood vessel disease patients. Bruce Barton will be national campaign chairman.

Whittaker Dies In Salt Lake City Of Heart Ailment

Lindon Douglas Whittaker 5A of Salt Lake City died Tuesday afternoon at his residence from a heart ailment. Born November 25 1896 in Salt Lake City he was a painter by trade and former employee of the Utah Oil Refining Co and Utah State Road Commission. Survivors include his widow a daughter a son three grandchildren and three brothers and one sister all of Salt Lake City or nearby.

On May 9 the Milford High School Band under Mr McDermott began marching drills. They learned dress right dress left forward march and company hair as they set aims for the music festival in Beaver.

George Carter a former MH & student is here on a short visit. He is currently assigned to duty around airplanes and says his work and the Navy are liked. He will leave Milford Friday to return to duty.
