A Ruminator proposes to dream often while thinking little and scattering bouquets as goals stay high on the sod to enjoy them, then fire a hot shot now and then before aging sight can no longer see sparks.
A potpourri of bits includes a dying man's comical will plan to divert debts, a picnic prize roll call with surprising results, a playful quarrel between a nagging wife and henpecked husband, praise for Veterans of Foreign Wars leaders, an old Milford News joke about a fire hose, and local trips to Salt Lake with hopes for auto advertising deals.
The Milford News reports new and renewed subscriptions from multiple local residents including HL Hall Alvin H Baker F B Casterline A D Thompson Ott Steenbock Roy Cottrell O A Melcher J Root Mrs Ivan McKnight William Cochrane W J Baker Harry Forgie and others from Milford plus distant subscribers IrFE Leek West Hollywood and R G Siewert Canoga Park.
Dr R R Shannon chaired Milford's Birthday Ball committee as medical representative to organize the event on January 30 with local groups. Seventy percent of proceeds fund rehabilitating infantile paralysis victims, while thirty percent goes to President Roosevelt for national research.
Union Pacific plans tearing down the Las Vegas shop building and transfer pit while keeping the powerhouse. The Las Vegas shops, opened in 1910, long provided about 600 jobs and supported the town’s economy. Cement blocks from the site will fund a new American Legion auditorium, with yards expanded on the former spree area.
The Milford Lions Club held a well attended lunch meeting in the Union Pacific dining room. Officers read notices on a 90 day postponement of a railroad abandonment hearing and a letter to Congressman Abe Murdock about Milford as an army air corps interior aviation depot.
A large crowd welcomed James E. Van Zandt national commander in chief of the Veterans of Foreign Wars to Beaver for a district 8 9 gathering. The visit included a reception banquet and a public talk at the high school auditorium urging prompt payment of adjusted service certificates and criticizing relief administration.
Lee C Brown of Bloomfield Iowa former Milford News editor and Milton Herald editor chosen as one of 39 auditors for the Iowa state income tax division from 7000 applicants. Brown served as campaign manager for Towns successful congressman in the November election leaving newspaper work temporarily to do so.
The meeting chaired by Bob Newers of the Veterans of Foreign Wars discussed adjusted certificates and remittance vouchers as overhead. Congress is urged to pass the bonus bill despite President Roosevelt's veto threat, with work remaining among unfriendly senators. Mayors Hubbell of Milford and Griffiths of Beaver attended, chorus and John Williams provided entertainment, and the high school band performed. Next week the seven point VFW program will be published.
Dr Arvin joins the army reserves and is commissioned lieutenant in the medical reserve corps. 12 men join the Desert Range CCC camp from Juab Summit Tooele Box Elder Carbon Utah Iran Sevier counties. Sequences describe wartime camp life with jokes and social notes, plus a checkers game between Captain Walker Lieutenant Frake and Lieutenant Arvin.
Saturday night Milford M men faced a camp squad at the high school gym. The Milford players showed sharp passing and teamwork while the camp boys failed to provide real competition. The Milford team praised as good players and good sports, plans for more practice and tougher games follow.

Start time 7:30 with 25 cent admission for most. women admitted free.
Eldon Cates and Howard Gospill represented Albert Pike Lodge at the 64th annual Utah Grand Lodge communication in Salt Lake City. About 200 attendees from 26 Utah lodges heard Dr. D. D. Steckman elected grand master for the coming year with J. W. Stoner as predecessor and Harold Cline named grand orator.
L. A. Wynaught departed Tuesday afternoon by train for Salt Lake City on a business trip.
The Mil ford Newhouse line abandonment petition before the Interstate Commerce Commission appears halted for now. Ernest D. Salm of the Utah Citizens Rate Association and local interests led a campaign that prompted a January 9 Utah Public Utilities Commission hearing, later cancelled, with further details pending.
Milford M I A will hold its annual Gold and Green ball in the ward recreation hall Friday night January 25 with attractive decorations and fine music. The gala program includes thelancers and waltz quadrille and selected couples are practicing to display the dances as highlighted attractions.
Funeral services were held for W. M. Blackwell an Airways radio operator who died of septicemia. He served in the navy and with the air commerce department. The service featured Veterans of Foreign Wars conduct and a color of memory. He leaves a widow son Phillip and his Colorado publisher parents.
Leading up to the disposition, Mr Salm organized data, gathered protestants, and set conferences among parties. Hopeful reports of extra mine tonnage on the branch line contributed to the postponement, seen by many as a formality toward withdrawal of the railroad company application.
