Union Pacific added two trains on the Los Angeles to Salt Lake line to relieve congestion and boost mail and express service. Train No. 6 westbound leaves Milford at 4 am and No. 6 eastbound at 2 pm, with no announced schedule changes for other trains. The 1 to 2 pm period at the local station will be busier as trains 3 and 6 join 118 the Challenger, running in multiple sections.
The Rebekah lodge held the semi annual installation of officers on Wednesday January 8 at the Odd Fellows hall. District Deputy President Selma Carlson assisted by Deputy Grand Marshal Vena H Wilson oversaw the ritual as Victory Rebekah Lodge No 43 installed its elective officers for the ensuing term. Last week heavy snow and record low temperatures cripple roads in Pine valley. Captain Horn's convoy to Milford stalled at Frisco, aid arrived from Horn Silver Mine, and a spike camp plan was delayed. Crews repaired lines, cleared routes, and prepared cedar posts for shipment as arctic conditions persisted.

Rodney Edwards, about 19, of Cedar City and former Milford resident, was among eight Union Pacific maintenance of waymen killed when a freight engine backed into a motor car near Brant on the main line about 75 miles west of Las Vegas. Engineer W H Galli has been named as the locomotive’s operator. Edwards was son of Mr and Mrs Charles Edwards and nephew of Mr and Mrs Willard Nichols.
Milford M Men, regional champs in the ATL Church League for three years, drop their first 1987 season league game 26 to 21 at Minersville. It was tight all evening with Milford trailing by one at the end of the third. The hosts pulled away late as Milford, having only two practice sessions, struggled to keep pace. Milford’s next home game vs Beavey East is set for Friday on the high school floor.
A Milford fire alarm sounded two hours after water pressure returned, revealing a drained tank on the bench due to taps left running to prevent freezing. Firefighters, despite sub zero weather, contained a minor blaze at the Abe Fotheringham home with no injuries or major damage. The issue traced to an empty tank and a frozen vapor impeded the switch that powers the pumps.
Mrs L Kelly was called to Salt Lake City last week on account of the death of her brother in law. She returned home Saturday afternoon.
