Community column invites opinions while noting tensions between Delta and Milford civic clubs over Hiway 6 and Hiway 21 merits. It recalls a trip by Mr and Mrs J M Hughes, who describe Hiway 6 as barren and Hiway 21 as vital to ranchers and miners. A reader suggests re routing via Milford using tracks to lower costs, with a longer but easier grade.
Monday blaze near Floyd Eide wards sparked brief alarm as firefighters responded. Edwards connected a garden hose to an outside hydrant, cooling the trash fire to smoking embers before the flames were fully extinguished.
Funeral services were held in Minersville for George H. Dotson who died in an industrial accident at the Geneva Steel Plant on Friday January 2. The service included prayers by Bishop Harold Baker and a vocal trio, with Dotson survived by his widow Montella and six children, plus his parents and many siblings from Minersville and nearby towns.
Blred Leany son of Mr and Mrs F S Leany will be honored in a farewell testimonial at the Milford Ward Chapel on Monday January 26 before his departure for a New Zealand mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Mrs. O. R. Smith spent last weekend in Salt Lake City with her sons John Albert and Owen de and visited relatives in Pleasant Grove before returning to Milford on Sunday.

Milford High School Tigers lost the opener to Delta on Delta's floor, leading 17-12 at half before Delta rallied in the final minute. Milford made 4 of 12 free throws to Delta's 12 of 17. Milford Legionnaires dropped the league opener to Delta 43 to 29 at Delta on Wednesday, after a competitive first half. Milford had a brief second quarter lead before Delta surged with precise shooting, while Beaver defeated by Milford 62 to 33 last Saturday before Beeson left with a knee injury.
Roger Babson outlines cautious economic expectations for 1948, predicting wage rises, higher living costs, limited unemployment, and careful labor and monetary policy. He foresees inflation staying controlled until late 1948, production catching up with consumption, and a year of market diversification and price investigations as parties blame each other for high prices.
Mil ford residents donated more than a ton of clothing and shoes for needy Indians in New Mexico. Collectors from the Chamber of Commerce with Boy Scouts and Junior Firemen loaded Milner Truck Lines to Salt Lake City, free of charge, for onward shipment. James Baudino led repacking efforts. President Vance Fisher praised the initiative.
Greenville notes report a Spingro Fireside at Emma Williams home Sunday evening with fourteen members attending. J Hy Morris, recently ill at Milford Hospital, moved home to Green Valley Tuesday. Ross Calvert and sons returned from Caliente Nevada. Merle Coffee of Bishop visited en route to Provo while Maurice Blackner and party went to Los Angeles. Shirley Blackner to stay in California. MLA dance director Nettie Griffiths attended M I A meeting and hinted at another visit next week. Blaintinckett duo returned from Circleville after Christmas with Daphne Smith family. The Messiah will be sung by 115 voices with a five-piece orchestra in Milford High School Auditorium on Sunday January 11 at 2 pm. Milford Lions Club and Milford Chamber of Commerce sponsor the appearance. Admission is free and the event aims to bring classical music to the community.
