Firemen Contain Trash Fire Beside Floyd Eide Wards

Monday blaze near Floyd Eide wards sparked brief alarm as firefighters responded. Edwards connected a garden hose to an outside hydrant, cooling the trash fire to smoking embers before the flames were fully extinguished.

George Dotson Killed in Geneva Steel Accident

Funeral services were held in Minersville for George H. Dotson who died in an industrial accident at the Geneva Steel Plant on Friday January 2. The service included prayers by Bishop Harold Baker and a vocal trio, with Dotson survived by his widow Montella and six children, plus his parents and many siblings from Minersville and nearby towns.

Tigers Fall To Delta Quintet In Season Opener

Milford High School Tigers lost the opener to Delta on Delta's floor, leading 17-12 at half before Delta rallied in the final minute. Milford made 4 of 12 free throws to Delta's 12 of 17. Milford Legionnaires dropped the league opener to Delta 43 to 29 at Delta on Wednesday, after a competitive first half. Milford had a brief second quarter lead before Delta surged with precise shooting, while Beaver defeated by Milford 62 to 33 last Saturday before Beeson left with a knee injury.

Messiah to Bring Large Orchestra to Milford

The Messiah will be sung by 115 voices with a five-piece orchestra in Milford High School Auditorium on Sunday January 11 at 2 pm. Milford Lions Club and Milford Chamber of Commerce sponsor the appearance. Admission is free and the event aims to bring classical music to the community.
