South Milford residents held New Year festivities with Walter Weber and guests including Mrs. Frank Stew art and Carl Elinor. County Assessor James H. Rolling informs The News that 1942 license plates for cars and trucks will be available at Beaver throughout the year. Arrangements are made to issue license plates in Milford two days a week after January 1, days to be decided. For changes of ownership on out of state titles, applications still must go through the state tax commission.
Army medical board led by Lt Col Walter Crandall toured northern Utah and southern Idaho seeking a site for a proposed inland military hospital. Milford presented four locations with terrain, drainage, rail access, water supply of one million gallons daily, and 1000 kV electric power guaranteed, while Salt Lake City plans and Cedar City delays tested patience.
Wah Wah Mining plans to explore the old Lue mine workings 3600 feet from the Tasso shaft in the Ping Grove district of western Beaver county. The Tasso shaft reached 200 level with 190 feet of drifting, last 30 feet in ore with gold silver lead zinc copper and manganese. The firm intends to build a mill after ore bodies are developed. R C Dugdale died in December and was succeeded by his brother James H Dugdale as president and GM. Edward F Richards named vice president and director. E W Dugdale and E A Laughlin named directors with Sweeney and T A Janney as additional directors. Financials show $13,680 for mine development, $2,057 for equipment, $3,588 for administration, $2,088 for mining property, leaving $825 cash on hand December 5.

Two Milford families learned of the deaths of nephews in the Pacific war. John Thomas Noel Jr., 19, an army truck driver, was killed December 8 at Clark Field after enlisting two days after his 19th birthday. George Allen, 25, a Marine for four years, was killed just off Manila in the war, according to War Department notices to his parents.
President Roosevelt designates February 16 as the first registration date for men aged 20 to 44 not yet on selective service rolls. The order covers 48 states plus Alaska Hawaii and Puerto Rico for men born between February 17 1897 and December 1 1921. About 100000 men not already registered would be made available for armed services.
The Philippines Red Cross, backed by the American Red Cross, reports about 120000 evacuees in the path of Japanese attacks receiving material relief. Total relief costs reach $450000 monthly with $300000 already committed, as eight emergency hospitals operate and twelve more to be started, with 7 percent of evacuees currently unreachable.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Joseph Riggs Murdock a Beaver County stockman and Milford resident for 12 years He was known for cattle and horse improvement in southern Utah His survivors include four sons Joseph J Murdock Jr Lincoln Murdock John C Murdock and Waldo P Murdock a sister Mrs Almira DeWolfe and other relatives The service featured music prayers and a graveside rite at Mountain View Cemetery in Beaver.
Beaver County agent Hyrum Steffen urges farmers to extend the life of current machinery and delay purchases to support the war effort. Reed Spilth, chair of the Beaver County War Spruce Defense board, calls such actions patriotic and essential to conserve materials for the war.
