Milford area parents urged to register children in a state program and disaster preparedness drive. Registration runs Monday and Tuesday January 12-14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the high school faculty room. Milford high school basketball under coach Del Moine Christensen held the Hurricanes Typhoons to a 29 to 27 finish on New Year's night. Stalling at key moments kept Milford from a win, but local fans see promise for Beaver-Milford league play.
Theodore Krotholm, a known local millage advocate, plumber, and town board member, has left for the Veterans Hospital in Salt Lake City for treatment after weeks of rheumatism and a week bedridden words note his hospital stay and expected progress.

At the Los Angeles Union Stock Yards cattle hogs sheep and pounds goods see record high demand as war orders boost government purchases. Prices rise with steers at 14.25 to 15.25 per cwt heifers 11.50 to 14.50 cows 9.50 to 11, vealers 13.40 to 16 and calves 12 to 14. The busy market reflects wartime supply constraints and strengthened civilian demand.
