Farm News Notes on Voluntary Corn Hog Adjustment Plan

Farmers may join a government voluntary corn hog program with two main cuts. First, reduce 1934 corn acreage at least 20 percent below the farm’s 1922 193? average and limit payments to 30 percent of the 1932 1933 base. Second, cut hog production by three fourths of the 1922 1933 average litters and cap hog purchases for market. Payments include 34 cents per bushel on contracted corn and five dollars per hog on market pigs from farrowings.

Beaver-Millard district finalizes high school hoop schedule

Beaver Milford Hinckley Delta Minersville Fillmore compete in a season slate drafted after a meeting led by FE Allen Bateman. The schedule runs from January to March with games on January 5 12 18 19 26 27 February 2 9 16 23 and March 2 plus a tiebreaker on March 9 if needed. Officials were examined and new rules explained.

Students Home for Holiday in Milford

A group of students spends Christmas holidays in Milford visiting friends and relatives. Among them are Beth Coleman from Logan Agricultural College, Madeline Keough from St. Mary’s in Salt Lake, Harry Russey and Roy Rogers from Salt Lake, and Loretta Murdock from Dixie College in St. George.

Mr and Mrs B E Hutchings hosted the Big Four club at home on Wednesday. Miss Helen Cowles of Ashton Idaho arrived for a several day visit with William Cochranes. Families travel and visits light community activity as residents return for Christmas. Local business reports show a rise in shopping late December.

Funeral held for Mrs. Gena Neil Boyter in Beaver

Funeral services were held at the Beaver West Ward L D S chapel for Mrs. Gena Neil Boyter 79 who died in Caliente where she had lived since 1929 with her daughter Mrs William E Fernley The procession included the Mil ford Order of Eastern Star Interment was in Mountain View cemetery Beaver She was born in Dundee Scotland June 20 1854 and married to Mr Boyter They moved from Beaver to Milford in 1912 and returned to Beaver afterwards Surviving are a son Henry K Boyter three daughters Mrs Gene Cartwright Mrs Evelyn Crandell and Mrs Fernley 21 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren

Ford Demonstration Tours Milford With 1934 Cars

C. B. Petty manager of Petty Motor company Cedar City and Ford agents for Beaver Iron and Washington counties, with two salesmen and three 1934 Ford cars, spent Friday and part of Saturday in Milford demonstrating features of the new cars. A standard 2 door, deluxe 2 door, and standard 4 door were shown to interested locals. Milford Minersville and Beaver students traveling home for the holidays benefited from the trip home in the new cars.

Death of 8 year old from .22 rifle accident

Mr and Mrs William Heslington mourn the death of their nephew Don Hutchings age eight in Ely. The boy was accidentally shot by his brother Grant who had just come into possession of a .22 rifle. A hung cartridge discharged while being removed causing nine intestinal perforations.

Local crews trained on new electric train system

J H Husbands of Salt Lake City instructed local passenger engine crews on operating the motor driven car used on the Fillmore branch and the future electrified Union Pacific service. Crew members from Salt Lake Milford Las Vegas and Los Angeles learned electric controls with Millsap Miller Reven and firemen White Holm and Low demonstrating aptitude. The exact start date remains uncertain but qualification by January 15 for three engineers and three firemen from each city is planned. The three car train will weigh about 197000 pounds and the Lynndyl Milford run may be completed in 57 minutes.

Archaeologist Frank Beckwith Joins Arches Survey Crew

Frank Beckwith of Delta Utah arrives in Mont to assist a reconnaissance survey at Arches National Monument. The Chronicle editor, famed for cliff dweller and Indian life studies, is a national authority who also runs the Delta paper with his son Frank Sr supervising in his absence.

Christmas social scenes in South Milford community

Mr. and Mrs. Carl Elmer and two sons and J. W. Underhill traveled to Delta and Salt Lake for holidays. Mrs. C. W. Johnston and a baby returned home from the hospital. The Merrymakers club caroled on Christmas Eve, visiting many Flat homes. Community gatherings included meals, a club meeting about a P W A project, and a Christmas party at the club house with Santa, dancing, and gifts.
