Beavers County News to Succeed Beaver Press and Milford News

In a countywide consolidation Beaver County News will replace two papers while retaining mastheads. The six to ten page weekly will publish Thursdays with deadlines Tuesday for society church and school news and Monday for ads. The editor notes economy of time and aims for larger, better coverage across Milford Beaver and area.

Polio Vaccine Production Slowed by Storage Waste

Two major manufacturers Eli Lilly and Pitman Moore cut back on Salk polio vaccine output as millions of doses sit unused in storage. Officials blame public complacency and a surplus after the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis and federal agencies warned that about 20 million doses are wasted. Lilly sent a million doses to Sweden. some stockpiles were released abroad due to domestic underuse.

Beaver County Nears Bond Sales Goal

Don Pitchforth Rescues Children From Granger Fire

Milford man Donald Pitchforth sustained second degree burns to his back while rescuing two of his children from a Christmas morning blaze in a Granger home. The fire, caused by a gas hot water heater explosion, damaged the kitchen and utility room. his wife Betty suffered shock and a broken toe.
