Christmas Sewing Club Party At Mrs Dick Johnson Home

A Christings party hosted by Mrs Dick Johnson brought together members of a sewing club Monday night. Gifts were exchanged among attendees including Mrs Mack Gillins and Mrs Robert Tomsik. Changes Effectsed In Ration Board Milford Board Reorganized

The Milford ration board has a new chairman, Whatches Hanley, succeeding David S. Williams who served over 18 months. New members D A Tanner Howard Gospill and Mrs H V Carlson join, with Mrs E L Smith continuing on the board and price panel. Other withdrawals include L G Clay Attorney Sam Cline. Wendel Fernley will head field operations for WPA boards across nine southern Utah counties with headquarters in Cedar City.

Woman Visitor Dies Here After Stroke in Milford

Mrs Frances Ada Baxter 66 of Ocean Park California died Saturday morning at Milford hospital from a stroke suffered about three weeks earlier while visiting relatives in Milford. Burial will be in Fillmore under Southern Utah Mortuary. Born November 7 1877 in Salt Lake City she was the widow of Ernest Claude Baxter and sister of Charles V George and Ross Baxter of Milford. Survived by daughter Mrs Stella Gilligan of Fillmore who came to Milford to help care for her mother with her grandchild.

Segerstrom Interests Expand Copper King Mine Operations

Segerstrom interests press on with mining despite ending Prosper and Old Hickory plant work. The Copper King mine, six miles west of Milford, will be operated for scheelite values and ore shipped to Salt Lake City for treatment. Segerstrom led Utah tungsten production in 1943.

Death of Milford Resident James Henby Tl Provo

Word reaches Milford friends of the death of James Henby Tl Provo, longtime Milford resident. A Rice County, Minnesota native, he is believed to have a sister in Tachema. He came to Milford on a land deal and later engaged in mining.

Pitchforths Return From Salt Lake City With Daughter Judy Ann

Mrs Gene Pitchforth Jr and Miss Patsy Pitchforth traveled to Salt Lake City last Friday to retrieve Judy Ann daughter of Mr and Mrs Pitchforth who had been in a Salt Lake hospital for two weeks undergoing surgical treatment.

Military families note promotions and training across camps

Mr and Mrs Roy White Jr announce their son Thorald’s promotion to corporal in the engineer corps at Camp Beele near Sacramento. Dick White, recently inducted from railroad work supporting a wife and two children, joins a tank destroyer unit in training at Camp Hood near Austin, Texas. J C Smith speaks with son Bill via telephone, stationed on a new navy carrier and likely involved in the Gilbert Islands operations. Sergeant Campeanu and Leland Rogers show overseas moves, with Campeau in signal corps and Rogers in medical corps, as Harold Beard travels from Camp Shelby to gunnery school in Las Vegas. Jane Fraser, seaman second class, finished boat training at Farragut and advances to naval aviation conditioning in Norman, Oklahoma. David Williams, navigator of a Graf fortress, is en route after crossing the northern Atlantic air route, with a letter arriving in Milford.

Christmas Party At American Legion Auxiliary Hosts

Mrs Metan Weston Mrs Jane Jowen and Mrs Carlie Waddoups hosted the American Legion Auxiliary Christmas party at the community center on Monday December 20. A short business meeting welcomed new members Ed Bardsley Mary Seed Morgan Griffiths and Lanney. Milford Unit No 16 led state in membership at 158 percent earning a $10 prize. The secretary was instructed to order poppies early due to rising demand. Refreshments were served, tables decorated with a Christmas motif, and gifts exchanged before bridge. Miss Helen Fytheringnan arrived Monday for a visit with home folks and friends.

Milford High School Ally Follows Lieutenant to War

An ordinary air mail note links an alumnus of Milford High School and BAC classmate Lieutenant David Lewis who flew combat missions over Nazi Europe. Lewis, navigator of a fortress, reportedly took part in the Schweinfurt raid where 60 American heavy bombers were lost. Latest radio reports say more than half of the roughly 600 American airmen from that raid are now known alive but prisoners. Also mentioned is Corporal Thane Gelli of Garrison, on furlough from Camp Claiborne, attached to an infantry unit.
