Young cattle favored by feedlots as fall market shifts

Farm notes say feedlots seek younger finishing cattle due to demand for smaller beef cuts and lower production costs. The shift from three to four year olds to calves reflects consumer trends and cheaper gain. county fair entries from Milford and Minersville, Cook horses, and a clipping machine program for dairy cattle accompany a busy county fair season.

Milford Creamery to Open in Mil ford Valley by September 16

Milford Valley farmers will gain a modern creamery as California Dairy Stock Co plans to ship two hundred high grade cows and equipment from Los Angeles. Gene Kirk reports the project, with W H Zirbel and R H Nelson guiding the venture and a temporary Milford lease in place for immediate operation.

Improving Land Holdings Here

Work on the drainage canal on the land holding of R. R. Clarke adjoining Milford was begun this week. The canal aims to aid spring and winter drainage. engineer John Coffee from Los Angeles is in charge. Dr. Clarke holds extensive lands he is developing.

Triplets Born in Panguitch Two Die at Birth

Triplets born to Mr and Mrs Parley Ipson in Panguitch Tuesday include two who died eight hours after birth. a surviving son named Joseph N Ipson is expected to live. The couple’s connection to Panguitch State Bank is noted.

Jury Drawn for September Term in Beaver County Court

Family From Train Recovering From Food Poisoning

Dr Bybee and two nurses met a train load of ill travelers at the Atkin Hotel. A mother, Mrs. Elbert J. Luppens, and four children from California to St Louis were treated for food poisoning. By morning they were improved and planned to continue their journey on the afternoon train.

Lee Brown Named Associate Editor Of Bloomfield Paper

Lee Brown succeeds J. C. Hoglan as associate editor of the Bloomfield Democrat this week. He will assist editor K. F. Baldridge in editorial work and also contribute to news and advertising. Brown, a WWII veteran and former Milford News publisher, is a Lombard college graduate and a longtime Bloomfield resident. He and his wife will reside in the Atwood home vacated by Howard England.

Ore Shipments From Horn Silver Mine Increase

Ten carloads of ore have been shipped from the Horn Silver mine of the Tintie Lead company this past week. The recently developed gold ore is being shipped steadily and showing good returns.

Bennett leads in United Artists’ Puttin on the Ritz at Victory Theatre

Joan Bennett stars opposite Harry Richman in the big musical Puttin on the Ritz from United Artists. The Bennett family lines the production with her father Richard Bennett and sisters Constance and Barbara noted for stage and screen work.

Switch engine collision near depot injures two men

Guy Walker and his brother Fred, with H. Agie, narrowly escaped a serious crash when a switch engine hit their Durant four car at the crossing south of the depot. The engine and car were carried sixty feet down the track, yet all occupants suffered only slight scratches. The Walkers work for Compton Construction on the oil road project from Milford to Beaver.

South Milford Community Club Plans Livestock Day

The South Milford Community Club schedules its next meeting at the club house on Saturday evening September 6. President names a committee including J. G. Mrs. Freda Outzen hosted a 12 o'clock luncheon Tuesday for guests including Mrs. Wm Morley Mrs Hal Strong of Salt Lake City and others. Bridge host Mrs W G White entertained in honor of Freda Moss with prizes. A picnic honored Rev Root and family and others. Florine Farnon celebrated her sixth birthday with a party. Jack McMullen hosted a Milford Hotel dinner for his son Jack and Francis Wallace whose marriage was in San Francisco last November. The couple plan to return to Long Beach. Mrs George Litchfield held a birthday party for daughter Margaret August 20th with games.

Calf Farm Move Explored To Boost Utah Dairy Industry

Milford could host Utah s first calf farm to raise calves from high producing cows for sale to dairymen. J W Cross of California Dairy Stock Co visits Milford with plans to establish a calf farm here, supplying local dairymen and creating a market for valley feed.

Beaver Lions plan trip to top of Belknap Mountain

The Beaver Lions Club sponsors a Sunday horseback excursion eight miles from Puffer Lake to Mount Belknap’s summit. Milford Lions and locals are invited, with a free noon camp lunch at the foot of the peak. Horses must be secured Friday night and brought to Puffer Lake Saturday. trip departs 8 am Sunday and returns by evening.

Hospital Notes and Social Roundup From Milford

Eldon Cates had a successful appendectomy last Sunday and is recovering well. Ruby Hardy and Lloyd Lemon underwent surgeries this morning for appendix and tonsil issues at the hospital. Mr and Mrs Glen Barnes and their children have moved back to Milford from Theme Utah. Mrs Lee Gray and children visit relatives in Portland Seattle and Tacoma and plan to be away a month.
