Beavers residents and western county neighbors expect a Milford State Bank branch to open near October after a prior bank failure. The branch would occupy the former State Bank of Beaver building pending stockholder action to amend the Milford bank articles. The hearing at the county courthouse was led by state bank commissioner Rulon Starley, who praised Milford Bank’s strength and oversight. Beaver Mayor George Murdock and County Attorney Theodore Bohn voiced support.
Miss Fanny Carlton departed for Salt Lake City on Wednesday aboard the Challenger and will then proceed to Cleveland Ohio to enroll in a one year library science program at Western Reserve University. She earned a $1000 scholarship for the study after years of library work and missionary service in Puerto Rico with the Christian church.
The Social Hour gala last Thursday featured a flower show with arrangements guided by Miss Baxtoe from the B A C. Miss Maycock, Miss Agren, and County Agent Stoker were among local guests. Mrs Carl Rohm chaired. A solo by Mrs Ivan McKnight, a short poem by Miss Eloise Rohn, and a tap dance by Miss Grossmen livened the event. Refreshments were served and flowers were generously donated, with thanks to Mrs Decked for varieties. News from California announced a family message for Mrs Morgan Griffiths and Mrs Hannah Smith awaiting word about their mother.
Union Pacific announces a new Challenger train will start September 15 operating daily between Los Angeles and Chicago. The upgraded service features weight saved cars with redesigned coaches and larger diners, plus new locomotives and the continued revolutionary policies.
Floyd Kotter of Salina will coach New Milford High School next year. Superintendent Wither reports Kotter has led North Sevier High School teams to the state tournament twice. Beaver county schools plan September sessions with extensive registration and loan-possible aid for students seeking college.
The two year old son of Mr and Mrs Leland Peterson of Gar non is recovering at Milford hospital after a severe ruptured appendix. Dr R R Shannon treated the case with initial home care and the second abscess was removed upon hospital admission. Father and mother have stayed at the hospital with him.
Plans advance for the second annual field day at the Desert Branch of the Intermountain Forest and Range Experiment Station, 40 miles west of Milford. Visitors travel from Milford by 4 pm September 4 to tour research on range vigor, grazing management, weed control, drought effects, and erosion.
Mrs. E F Gray returns from the University of Utah summer course with 150 instructors at the conference. Free open classes resume next week with sewing, handicraft and sewing sessions scheduled at local homes and the public library 2 to 5 pm ongoing Monday through Friday.
The M. E. Community Church announces Sunday services on August 20 with an 10:00 a.m. worship and preaching, a 1:00 p.m. sermon by the pastor on Faith in Time of Crisis, and an evening service. Hipworth league at 7200 Par, mid week study and recreation at the parsonage.
D. Actanner escaped with bruises and strained ligaments when his car wheel collapsed on Sunday evening. The vehicle swerved into a ditch between Kanosh and Cove and then rebounded, but he replaced the wheel with a spare and drove to Milford without great difficulty.
More than 3000 sportsmen are expected to gather at Fishlake on August 23 and 24 for the first annual outing of the Utah State Sportsmen's Association. Harold B. Makin and C. B. Evans announce a two day program with a 2 p.m. Saturday business meeting at Skougeard's tavern. Newell B. Gook will open talks on range and fish problems, with Frank G. Martines addressing the effects of legal and illegal killing of deer. Stan Tattersall will lead the after discussions as part of a broader effort to involve sportsmen in policy and public views.
