Milford Teens Get Weekly Saturday Dance

Milford ILDS Wards sponsor a recurring Saturday night dance for teenagers. The effort, supported by local groups, could influence other organizations to focus more on teen recreation and community activities.

The paper announces 6000 copies of a 28 page edition produced in a small shop, with extra copies at 10c locally or 15c mailed plus 5c to Postmaster Norman Baxter. Some news notes were set aside for later publication and rush printing is welcome before Sept 1 to 4 when the team plans to be out of town.

The Milford Lions back the Labor Day 4H Club Race Meet with Frank Lewis praised for three years of lead work. Lions say they will support the event alongside the club members as they host an afternoon race, a possible parade, the Jayner All-Star softball game, and an evening Jaycee Dance.

Milford High Football Schedules Uniform Issue

Coach Lee Pettey announced football uniforms will be issued to Milford High gridmen next Friday and Saturday. Lettermen receive suits Friday August 20 and other candidates Saturday August 27. First practice Monday August 20 with a season opener at Mount Pleasant September 9.

Egypt Youth Stays With Beaver County Hosts

Khalil Mohammed Taher, an international farm youth exchange student from Egypt, visits Beaver County and stays with Mr. and Mrs. Taylor Farnsworth in Beaver. He will spend two to three weeks with the Farnsworths and then another period elsewhere.

Egyptian agricultural inspector travels with U S family

A 26 year old erudite Egypti an inspector of cooperative societies tours the United States with the Bill Wood family in Minersville and will visit Utah farms. He has a BS in agriculture with majors in entomology and animal breeding and has managed 12 000 irrigated acres back home.

Barbecue and Dance Set at Baker

The Mt. Wheeler Whirlers sponsor a square dance and barbecue on Aug 27 at Lehman's Cave. Earl Beck and his wife of Pleasant Grove will call. they direct Utah Valley recreation and recently attended a Steamboat Springs conference. Doors open 6 pm and dancing begins 7 pm. Proceeds fund a new recreation hall at Garrison.

Red Cross Officer Election Meeting in Milford

The Milford Red Cross Chapter will hold a meeting on Wednesday August 31 at 8 p m in the Library Building basement to reorganize the chapter and meet officers. Mr Sutherland a new field representative will be present and all Milford citizens are invited.

White Market Tops Jaycee Softballers in season finale

Final action of the Jaycee Junior Softball League left Shay's Recreation and Schramm's Service tied for second. White Market, previously champions, lost 4-3 to Schramm's in a thriller as Horton induced a key double play to seal Shay's win. All-Star voting opens for fans to select managers and players through Aug. 29.

Pony Express Relay to Feature Ely Celebration

Ely hosts Pony Express Days August 27-28 with a Pony Express relay, 10 daily thoroughbred and quarter horse races, the Nevada Fair of Industry, and a horse show with cutting horses. Over 300 horses on hand attract out of state crowds from Utah Idaho Arizona and California.

The Mutuals of Milford LD wards sponsor weekly Saturday dances for local youths year round except when school events occur. Dick Bolton promotes the events. Outdoor Legion pavilion in good weather, indoor venue in winter. Jake Schow’s orchestra leads the first dance after the Second Ward Dinner. Admission 50 cents per couple.
