Seed Potato Initiative Shows Disease Free Prospects

Inspector E C Barrett toured Beaver County 4 H fields on August 19 to examine seed potatoes. He found tubers weighing up to half a pound on vines less than two months old and reported no disease. The fields used hot formaldehyde treated seed planted in late June show strong seed potential, unlike neighbor plots with high infection. Farmers urged to source seed locally from these boys to avoid disease and high freight.

Burglar Strikes Allen's Cash Store in Weekend Break-In

A break in occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning at Allen's Cash Store. Intruders pried a rear window, smashed glass, and stole about fourteen dollars plus assorted vigorets. They left no obvious clue and obscured traces by concealing glass and covering the window hole, then resecured a brace to mislead after closing.

Statewide Open Season Bans on Prairie Chickens in Utah

Utah will not have an open season on prairie chickens this year. Fish and Game Commissioner J Arthur Mecham says protection is needed to prevent extinction of sage hens willow and pine grouse are scarce and may require county by county closures. Pheasant hunting will be allowed late September or early October with possible split open dates.

Jones Kuchenm ester nuptials in Ely Nevada

Mrs Sadie Jones and Mr Frank Kuchenmeister were married in Ely Nevada on Wednesday August 20. The couple returned to Milford the same evening and left that night on No 4 for Great Falls Montana to continue to Seattle and Portland. They will be absent several weeks. The bride has clerking duties at the Toggery in Milford and the groom is an engineer on the Union Pacific. The couple are highly respected and receive best wishes from many friends.

Tintic Lead Co ships steadily as Horn Silver shows progress

The Tintic Lead Co at Frisco Utah reports about ten year loads of ore weekly and focuses on development at the Horn Silver mine. Recent shows opened on multiple levels near the shaft reveal oxidized ore with gold values, while nearby rooms reveal lead zinc ore parallel to productive shoots. The 900 area near the Blue Room shows a strong lead-silver-zinc deposit, with a substantial silver-lead-zinc showing 926 feet southwest of slope 926. The deposit appears to flatten into beds per Mineral Survey data.
