Chaired by South Mil ed Community Club, the fair on August 28 features men and women divisions with prizes for top entries. Women compete in household arts from best bread to canned foods and embroideries while men enter livestock poultry field crops and garden crops with special ribbons for booth and single exhibit.
We express gratitude for the generous kindness shown by friends during our recent bereavement. Thanks for comforting ministrations of the choir and Reverend Root. Appreciation for the Mowers with their messages of sympathy from Chester G. Haskell, Mabel Hapkolt Billo and Earl.
Milford businesses announce they will issue S and H Green Stamps to customers. Sperry & Hutchinson Co will redeem stamps for premiums, with a sample display and complete catalogue to be shown soon. Participants include Progressive Clothes Shop Arlen's Cash Store Milford Bakery and Why Not Service Station.
Milford Red Cross chapter held a special meeting Monday night to aid flood victims discommoded by waters. A forty dollar treasury balance was pledged as the nucleus of an immediate relief fund. Workers canvassed the town and raised a tidy sum for prompt aid to the affected residents.
Milford shifts in commerce as D F Kirk moves to the north office of the Victory theatre building and Wednesday’s move completes. H F Chansler sells Corner Inn interest to J M Kinney who becomes sole proprietor. Nichols and Zabriskie fuse into P P 0 0 Garage with Zabriskie selling his stake. Additional changes are pending formal completion.
Conspicuous among the notices this week is the town board's plan to construct about ten thousand feet of cement sidewalks at an estimated cost near eleven thousand dollars. Mrs. Carrie Maud of Austin Texas arrived last Friday and is visiting with her daughter Mrs. C G Haskell and family.
The Milford Lions luncheon reviews diversification in farming, urges dairy cattle expansion, and backs a private creamery to boost payrolls. Road work updates include Main street reconstruction and bridge painting plans. Expansion talks cover clubs in Delta and St George, with 4-H calf club and community fair discussions amid rain delays.
H. A. White of Beaver secures the sales and distributing agency for Better Business Signs. His countywide territory covers the area, and Beaver already features an electric sign over the Bon Ton. The illuminated display brightens Beaver's main street at night, signaling progress.
A daughter arrived Saturday evening to Mr. and Mrs B C Leech. Mrs Leech is a daughter of Mr and Mrs Harry Ward of this city. Both the newborn and Mrs Leech are reported as doing fine.
Milford A C earned a solid tennis day beating Salt Lake A C on Milford courts. Six singles wins and two losses plus one tie marked the event with Brignand and Moore strong for Salt Lake, while Burns Casterline Montgomery Hamilton led Milford. Rain halted two remaining matches and shifted postgame plans.
The Board of County Commissioners increased the Hanging Rock pavilion license from 100 to 600 dollars per year affecting Wallace Outzen who runs the county’s only outdoor dance site near the Rock. Dancing nights are Wednesday and Saturday with season ending in September though immediate effect is unclear. Also noted are Beaver summer dances at Legion hall and travel plans of Mr and Mrs George Litchfield to Yellowstone Park.
A San Francisco range cloudburst drenched Milford causing four hours of five foot deep street water and mud. Businesses like Miller Market Corner Drug and Mrs Kellys Millinery suffered heavy damage while several buildings flooded basements and stock. Crews built drainage ditches and cleaned mud as the riverlike flood swelled near the Moscow mine and trains were delayed by washed out tracks.
The Social Hour club holds a business meeting at the Clubhouse on Thursday afternoon August 15 to discuss Fall plans and finalize the Flower Show. Glady Goxpil is chair of the flower committee. exhibits include Wild Flowers, Mixed Bouquets, Single Flowers, Potted Plants and uniform Bouquets. A musical and literary program will be part of the event and each member may invite two guests. The club will reconvene Thursday afternoon at the Clubhouse with hostesses Abe Heslington and Kent Smith.
Cedar City plans a three day rodeo and race meet from August 29 to 31 under the American Legion auspices. Organizers seek famous outlaw horses riders and jockeys with wrestling matches headlined by Ira Dern across all days. Further notices will follow.
