Free Red Cross Swimming Classes Start In Milford

Milford announces free Red Cross swimming lessons at the municipal pool from August 6 to 17 under the American Red Cross program. Instructor Myles J. Watkins will lead the classes, likely in the mornings, with enrollment via P. L. Neal. Since opening in July, 2548 people have used the pool, not counting private parties or 225 attendees on July 24.

Beaver County Selective Service Board Reorganized

Beaver County Selective Service Board reorganized Thursday with Wm A. Firmage as chairman and three members. Discharged Korean War veterans are classified 1-0 and not subject to draft, per regulations. Some service members are warned they may reenlist as boards plan to enforce draft rules. The board will meet monthly at the Beaver Selective Service office at 130 pm on the first Monday.

Milford Dodgers Enter Cedar City Ladies Softball Meet

The Milford Dodgers femi nine softball team coached by Richard Banks will join the Cedar City ladies softball tournament on August 3 and 4. They have won all local games this season. Batteries: Waima Holm pitcher and Beverly Davis catcher. Services Held for Oscar Potter in Minersville

Funeral services were conducted in the Minersville LDS Chapel for Israel Lurenan Oscar Potter 81 who died Saturday. He was born April 8 1870 in Lorraine Ohio and survived by five sons two daughters and ten grandchildren. Burial was in Minersville cemetery.

Minersville Conference Welcomes LDS Church Leaders and Converts

Minersville hosted a Sunday Ward Conference with the Stake Presidency present. Norman Banks was advanced to Priest and Dick Davis to Teacher as Councilor Tule Gilling presided. The congregation heard greetings from Stake President A Carlos Morduck and welcomed missionaries from Beaver County. Mr Jude and his German-born wife and daughter, new converts who have sought to come to America 23 years, spoke through a translator about their path to the LDS Church.

Milford Tax Levy Unchanged as Horton Resigns

Milford City Council kept the current year tax levy at last year’s level while reallocating funds. Claude Horton, in charge of parks and recreation, resigned before his term ends. no interim appointment was made. The council also directed letters to Utah’s senators and Representative Walter Granger about Milford’s new post office building, previously approved but unfunded.

Seven States Send Race Worses to Ely

Race horses from seven states join 180 thoroughbreds registered for Ely’s annual race meet at White Pine Fair grounds. Nevada Fair of Industry and Race Meet draws guests from the West with a four day racing program August 18 19 25 and 26 offering a $10000 purse. The event features a horse show with breeding classes and western skills plus regional industrial exhibits and a midway.

Milford First Ward Carnival Opens Summer Fest

A mid-summer carnival is scheduled for Friday August 10 under Milford First Ward sponsorship. Concessions and fun booths will offer games and activities, with four food sales featured. A Main Street parade at 7 p.m. opens festivities, followed by dancing to Vance Fishs orchestra.

Milford Lions Plan More Club Activities

Nine members attended last week's Milford Lions meeting at St Bridget's Hall. The group discussed rejuvenating the club and boosting community benefits, with Vance Fisher giving a brief talk and Dr Eugene Davie noting Milford's lead in state blood typing. About 450 residents have been typed, with ongoing clinics Mondays 8 to 9 pm at Beaver County Clinic and off hours via Dr Davie's office.
