A long list of Milford area residents and visitors recounts weekend trips and stays. Donald Bird and family spent the weekend in Milford. many relatives and friends are noted visiting Salt Lake City, Richfield, Cedar City, Provo, and Onslow. Mentions include Navy family movements, church and school activities, and attendance at a Parent-Teacher convention in Salt Lake City.
Salt Lake Chamber of Commerce plans a Woodswill tour through Southern Utah and Southeastern Nevada on Highway 91 May 3 to 6. About 100 members will depart Salt Lake Monday at 7 am in three cross county buses and arrive Milford about 3:45 pm for meetings with local attendees and brief speeches by James Richardson and M L Dye.
Softball gets under way next Monday at 7 p m with a meeting at the fair grounds for players and sponsors to organize the league and set rules. Officials expect strong turnout and a demonstration game to warm up as crews prepare for a summer season.
The Cool Willers lead a Milford parade at 3 PM Monday after noon following the Salt Lake Bagpipe band and the Milford High School band along Main Street.
Telluride Power Company and South Milford irrigators announced a new contract after a Public Service Commission hearing in Milford. Clerical details were resolved, with power lines and transformers to be upgraded and maintenance responsibilities defined as the parties agreed to work harmoniously on Milford Valley development.
Born to Mr and Mrs Warren Johnson on Mrs Johnsons birth anniversary April 23 a baby boy Owen R Smith weighed 6 lbs 11 oz. Air Owen R Smith underwent an operation Monday and is recuperating satisfactorily. Mrs James Hurst and baby boy of Salt Lake remain confined to Milford Hospital. Mr Art Myers of Minersville is receiving medical treatment at the local hospital. Mr Goldie Eyre is being treated for injuries from a mine accident. Mr Marvin Sheriff has been confined to the hospital for several days. Mr George Delgado manager of the UP Lunch Room underwent X ray and treatment for a broken wrist Tuesday and was referred to specialists at Salt Lake. Mike Rickerson has been discharged from the hospital and reports feeling much hotter. The company may be responsible for service loops and new meters which was left to the Public Service Commission for decision. A power meter rate schedule was approved by all present.
The Chamber of Commerce approved a tentative committee to organize the 184A race meet starting June 24 as a non profit entity. Gordon Murdock named temporary chairman with several others elected to the central committee. Subcommittees to be named soon.
The Milford American Legion announces the annual Memorial Day celebration set for Friday May 28. The same arrangements committee Sam Cline J M Hughes and Teddy Kronholm will lead planning with new entertainment features to make the 1948 49 er event the biggest yet. Beards are sprouting though no beard contest details have been announced and a local item adds color with a Colt 45 prop shown at The News Office window.
The Beaver Press editor Aird G Merkley announced the first copy of Beaver County History. One thousand copies will be printed with no second edition and about 700 copies already reserved. The volume covers county history, early settlement founders, notable residents, and community histories. bound in cloth and sold through Daughters of Utah Pioneers officers.
Residents visit relatives and travel plans are noted with several families from Beaver Mu ford and Cedar City seen in town. Local events include Legion Auxiliary meeting and friendly gatherings at the Davis homes while personal health updates mention Helen Davis recovering from pneumonia.
Milford resident Charles F Schow died Sunday in Las Vegas Nevada at age 73. He was born in Panguitch Utah in 1874 and married Sarah Owen in 1900. He worked as a cap inspector for Union Pacific and farmed in off hours, retiring after 40 years with the railroad and living with his children. Funeral services were held April 28 at the Milford LDS Church with prayers by Rudolph Nielsen and remarks by Tra M Fisher. Surviving are his wife, children, and many grandchildren in several states.
Democrats will convene in Beaver with revised April timing to satisfy recent election laws. Officers to be elected include chairman and vice chairwoman. a county central committee will be formed from Adamsville Green ville Minersville Milford districts and Beaver precincts with delegates allocated by district.
