Milford residents commend the Milford High School band and chorus under Band Director Jerrald McDermott for strong improvement in singing and marching. Readers note the group was unfairly rated lower at last year’s festival due to using challenging music, and urge public support and recognition for the students and teacher.
Milford Post No. 16 will initiate 48 members into the American Legion at a public ceremony Saturday evening in the 10 OF Hall. Local dignitaries include Bishop, Mayor J D Kirk, and Mrs Magdalena White Auxiliary president. The event includes dancing, a buffet, and aims to boost total post membership beyond the departmental quota.
An overflow Milford audience filled the Milford High School auditorium for the spring concert directed by Music Instructor Jerrald J. McDermot. The mixed chorus performed Bach and Wagner selections plus Friml, with accompanist Miss Karen Archer. The band offered varied pieces pleasing all tastes, and attendees praised the musicians and instructor as they exited.
The Milford High School Parente Teacher Association will hold a regular meeting Monday April 28 in the high school auditorium. A program by Mr McDermott is planned and elections and installation of officers for the 1952 53 school year will take place. Light refreshments will be served.

Elaine Smith of Provo guests of Max Gibbott over Easter. Glen McKnight returns from Lehi. Richard Snook an AT&T employee arrives from Denver to start duties at Milford plant. Snook married with one daughter. Dian McCulley to attend State Public Health meeting in Provo April 24 25. Neil Garfield and son visit mother Ruth Hillman in Ely. Lettie Gibson back in California after Minersville Milford visit staying with Bill Wunderlich. Don Gleason to tour Southern States May 1 for three weeks. Lt Dan Gillies released from US Army returns home to Cedar City. Gillies family visit Milford relatives. Nettle Kirk back from three week Southern California trip visiting children. School physicals for 4th 7th 10th grades nearly done. Board of Education sponsoring program. Frank Stewart in Salt Lake over weekend visiting Bud Carson and families. Mrs June Fotheringham formerly of Milford wins Provo slogan contest with new automobile prize. Clarence Grayson and family move to Milford from Texas. Grayson employed by Mayer Brothers.
A new tattoo machine has been purchased for Milford Civil Defense blood typing program. The machine will arrive soon and will be used to tattoo blood type under the armpit of participants. The typing program is expected to resume in the near future.
Funeral services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday for Frances Annelia Crosby Hollis 78 who died after a stroke in Milford Hospital Tuesday Survivors include three sons a daughter and a sister list of relatives and burial is Milford Cemetery
Milford High School band and chorus performed at the Region Six festival in Beaver on April 19. The band played Capitan On the Trail and Prelude and Fugue in B Minor earning a No 3 rating in the auditorium and No 2 in sight reading in the gym. The chorus options earned No 2 ratings with When to Thee Our Savior Went Gloria Excelsio and Jesus Priceless Treasure T Done Jesu.
The Milford Baseball Tigers begin official league play Thursday afternoon at the Fair Grounds diamond. Coach Perry Neal relies on strong pitching and power hitting with a 16 player squad including Harlan Anderson Kent Kinross Max Ketch Darryl Schramm Gary Anderson Hilly Jees Dean Stokes Larry Edwards Vaughn McDonald Marion Bers Dynamic LeFevre Gary Bingham and Donald Row.
Milford High sets its annual Junior Prom for Friday April 25 at 9 p m in a rose garden theme of blue gray. DeVons Swingsters will provide music with tickets 125 and 50 cents for extra ladies. The prom committee led by Aston Hollis and supported by Norman Lamb Mrs Marge Horton and others oversaw floor show decor and roses creating a blue black night in the gym. DeVon Anderson leads the band and teaches at Snow Junior College.
Forty civics students from Mr. Jesse Long visited Beaver for a Fifth District Court session led by Judge Will L. Hoyt. The program included talks by District Attorney Ellis J. Pickett and County Attorney John O Christiansen plus explanations by Hareld Cline and Sam Cline.
Milford High School elected new student body officers for the 1952 53 year. Darryl Schramm was chosen president with Lois Jean Fowles as vice president and Barbara Tanner as secretary treasurer.
Fire Department initiation held on Wednesday April 23 for Clark Wright Bert Carter Marion Barnes Max Keetch Ray McIntyre Thomas Bradfield Tommy James Dale Brimberry and Jack Firmage. They will assist Milford Volunteer Fire Department members Frank Jones Roland Fowles Dick Fisher De Wayne Myers and Ralph Moore. The volunteer department active since 1910 adds new members yearly.
The Ely Grade School band presented a lively April 18 assembly featuring marches overtures and variety numbers with majorettes. The group travels Southern Utah for concerts and joined a Beaver music festival earlier.
A 15 member panel appointed by the State Legislature toured Milford High School Milford Elementary School and Beaver High School on April 16 to study Utah schools. Led by Dr Lynn Bennion of Salt Lake City schools the group examined grounds buildings and attended classes during the day.
Pie and Mrs James Mayer and baby were in Milford over the week end. May er is stationed in a US Army hospital in San Francisco. Mrs Opal Walker accompanied her son in law and daughter to the California city to be with Barbara when she underwent major operation.
A Milford column proposes windbreaks as a quick fix for dust when paving is too costly. Hy Tolley, South Milford farmer, promotes tree planting this spring and seeks civic club and citizen support at a few cents per tree to plant hundreds of windbreak trees in the Milford Valley.
Henry Willesen of Beaver was named county chairman at the reorganizational convention in Beaver County Court House last Wednesday. He succeeds W G White of Milford who resigned. Eva Stone hocker is vice chairwoman and Louis Lessing secretary. Eight delegates were chosen to attend the State Democratic Convention in May. County Central Committee members and four at large members from Beaver and Milford were announced with Minersville to name its representatives later.
The Milford Cancer Drive team became the first district in the state to top the campaign goal for 1952. Mrs Wanda Holm led house to house canvassing with volunteers while Mrs Loretta Cling headed the Western Beaver County effort and the South Milford drive. The state congratulated Milford for over the top results and promised official announcement in the next bulletin.
