Gen Kirk new owner of the Atkin hotel starts a makeover to lift Milford business tone. The landmark portico is torn down for a self-supported modern canopy. The hotel will be renovated repainted and refurnished as allowed by priority regulations.
The Milford Athletic Club formed a yearlong plan at a Wednesday meeting in Union Pacific club rooms. A committee of J. E. Muncey, S. H. Vernon, Vance Fisher, Bill McDonald, and Colleen Myers was chosen to run the group. They will seek town board support to repair the tennis courts for all community use. without funds the club may repair privately and raise membership fees, limiting court access to members under 18.
Ration items include Red Stamps for books and blue Book Four items such as No.80 sugar five pounds and canning notes with a February 28 1940 date. Indefinite validity dates appear for several stamp types including shoes and gasoline items, with references to specific book numbers and letters.

Funeral services for Thomas Beard were held Friday afternoon at the local chapel. Beard, aged 63, died April 9 of a heart attack after long illness. Bishop Carlyle F. Gronning presided with Rudolph Nielsen and Mitchell Fisher as speakers. Music featured a quartet and solo by J M Hughes. Interment followed in Milford cemetery. Beard was born April 18, 1877, in South Normanton England. He came to Utah, married Phoebe Anderson in 1905, then Sarah Dailey in 1920. He worked in Union Pacific shops until retirement, then ran a chicken business. Surviving are his widow, six sons and nine daughters, plus brothers and sisters in Utah and California.
The Milford chapter arranged a display honoring contributors to the War Fund with a clever arrangement of citations and a tribute to workers who resisted the effort. Shesays shoppers may use 180 points in advance to buy meat from producers and stamps in book 4 are now usable for general purchase. Marvin R Horton revived in Milford the first of the week proudly wearing his silver wings awarded Saturday when he graduated from the Douglas Army Air Force pilot school at Douglas Arizona. He received his second lieutenant commission at the same exercises attended by his wife J Clinton Bond and Sia Bond. Horton had passed aviation cadet exams earlier and was called into active service in late February. He went to Denver for resignment and was sent to the Santa Ana air base after Cedar Oly for academic teaching. his five month program was shortened to three months and he was classified as a pilot.

The Associated Civic Club of Southern Utah will hold a Delta meeting on Saturday April 22. The executive committee meets at 11 AM to hear the president report and discuss matters. The general meeting starts at 3 PM in the high school building with a banquet and dance to follow at the Country club or another venue. Speakers include Summy Gordon Snow College and J T McGibbeny Salt Lake City. Stanley Stephenson Utah Manufacturers Negotiation secretary also plans to attend.
A pilot began training activities as Jeane 14 biscommunination and machinery program advanced despite time constraints. An emergency appendectomy occurred during the sequence. After a brief visit by Hamme Pelion and Perends, Tatiana Horton is set to return to the Triglie Held for site graduate work with the pilot instructor.
