A luncheon was held Saturday at 12:20 in Milford in honor of Mrs Slater, president of the Auxiliary to the VFW Escalante Post 1546, marked by pink and orchid sweet peas. The department president installed New officers, and Mrs Rauert presented Mrs Slater with a corsage of mixed flowers. Present were Mrs Slater, Mrs Clara McPadden, Mrs Agnes Rauert, Mrs Lois Waddingham, and others. Mrs Slater was accompanied by her husband, a VFW department officer.

Reports from Beaver say the Democratic county convention held Saturday April 13 endorsed unity, with E R Moody’s keynote praised and J K E Wilson urging harmony. John P Barton of Beaver was unanimously chosen county chairman, with Margret Bohn Milford as chairwoman and Theodore Bohn Beaver as secretary and E A Griffith Beaver as treasurer. Delegates named to the state convention include Milford CG Smith B R Mood s and Geare Rodgers with alternates Margret Rolin and Lorene Wilson. Greenville A K Barton and Mrs A Ky Barton. Mineraville Tramunt Bradfield and others.
The display ad announced the formal opening of Mil Ford’s new bakery led by Albert L. Christenynh this Saturday. A special offer gives a half-dozen cookies with each purchase to welcome locals, with the shop located near the Markin garage.
Mr and Mrs George Jhefferson and their son Tommy returned Wednesday from Salt Lake City where Tommy has been taken for treatment by a medical specialist.
Selar S Hutchings of the Desert Range Experiment Station in Pine Valley, with Dr W D Muir of Sidney Australia, returned to Milford Monday with a tour of forest service projects. Dr Muir, tied to the New South Wales forest service, shared notes from a yearlong tour in the service interests. He recalled lying in Copenhagen as Hitler invaded Poland and traveling through Denmark and Norway now under his regime’s protection.
State Engineer T. H. Humphryes announced the reappointment of H. K. Boyter as commissioner for the Beaver River distribution system for the 1940 irrigation season. The 1980s era data show 45,063 acre feet delivered. 24,250 storage and 20,813 natural flow. Precipitation was 8.86 inches. drought limited crops but range lands revived after heavy rains in September.
