A U P Worth of County article extols Beaver County Utah and its neighbors for dairy and alfalfa success. It notes 454000 acres of ranges, a 6400 foot elevation, abundant alfalfa, pure bred herds, creameries shipping to Los Angeles, and a thriving hog and poultry sector feeding markets from Utah to California.
Trainmaster N E McKinnon of Milford presented the Caliente school with twenty two dollars on behalf of the General Safety Committee. The gift was given to Principal Witenx to be used for school needs as they arise amid a cordial reception by the students and attendees.
A Beaver Lions Club committee was appointed to press for a new state training school at Beaver. Delegates from Beaver include County Supt John C Carlisle County Clerk E K Griffiths Jack Barton attorney Abe Murdock and Democratic Chairman J E Wiken. They will present the case before Governor Dero in Salt Lake City this week and Fay Temtona.
Beginning in May four mail planes will fly the Salt Lake City to Los Angeles route. Night flying will be introduced as beacons near Milford enable two planes per direction every day. Mail from New York to Los Angeles will take about thirty one hours. Milford beacon on a knoll west of the field is visible from afar. Beaver County sets Milford’s pace with farming, water supply and alfalfa production. Beaver is the county seat and Milford is a Union Pacific rail hub and trading center.
An ambitious Porty-Niners Day parade on the 19th features many floats and groups. American Legion Veterans of Foreign Wars and Boy Scouts will participate alongside a Party-Niner contingent. Prizes include an alarm clock and fountain pen from Gordon Jewelry, with a horseback rough riders segment and prize voting announced in the coming week.
Paragonah Utah residents Mr and Mrs Re Vere Robinson and Mrs Jennie Wand visited in Minersville. Beaver Utah guests Mrs Mary and others attended events. Cedar City visitors included Elva Hall and Clarence Gilling. Junior Prom drew out of town guests. a card party hosted by Ambrose Dalton. Monochrome hometown notices list multiple travel visitors, birthdays, and a pneumonia illness in a young child.
A school Red Cross nurse will resume duties next Wednesday April 17 in the Beaver and Milford areas of the county. The program includes home hygiene work and adult education efforts with ongoing projects in Nealieh progress and Merward formation of further groups. Increased attendance across all sections is anticipated as the nurse supports community health efforts in Minersville and surrounding townships.
Beaver announces formation of a militia unit to secure a Utah National Guard contingent. Commanding officers say the state will weigh in April 13 with 55 men ready for deployment as a peace-keeping force.
Milford railroad crew notes changes with Wm Browies leaving for Provo branch and Frank Goe returning from hospital now unable to work. Mrs Lewis headed to Kingman Arizona, Marian Easton Pauline Banks in lunch room. Congratulations to Clarence Grimshaw and wife on wedding. Mrs Steenbock recovering in LA, Dr Hunter improving. Mrs Ford returning to UP dining room after five months. Fireman Rocher and wife trip to California. Frasier back from Salt Lake. Delgardo to Zion National Park April 20 to manage hotel dining. cedar chest gifted. Biennial dinner honors Katherine Lewis departing to Arizona.
Milford residents hear support for an open air dance pavilion to be built this spring. Lions Club and American Legion propose joint ownership under a pavilion board with public access. Local leaders Joe Kinney and M. P Lewis discuss plans and approvals at Wednesday night meeting.
Dr E Myer, a chiropractor, opens offices in the Hubbell Apartments after leaving Beaver. He has long traveled county for five years and plans to keep Beaver as home while his family finishes the school year. Office hours begin in six weeks with Sunday calls planned.
Milford Lions Club hosts a town clean-up planning session at Union Pacific Hall on Wednesday evening. One member from each local organization will be invited to join, with assignments drawn to divide the town for cleanup. Dr Parrish organizes. Lions Club offers a five dollar prize for the best original essay on Why Cleaning Up and Painting Up Will Increase Civic Pride, due noon the 25th.
Roy Patton and Walter Mundt from Los Angeles were forced to land in Las Vegas while en route to Milford. They were traced by anxious friends as they arrived by train Wednesday. The men hold bee hive and honey extraction interests in Milford and nearby farms.
Tom Dobansen moved his pool hall fixtures around the corner east to a renovated new location. Anil Kessex keeps his barber shop in the old pool hall site while Amil contemplates moving or staying. Theatre plans in the garret building remain in limbo as Milford News offers free theatre tickets. Mrs Berd and Mrs Frances traveled to Provo for the infant child funeral of Mr and Mrs Mack Anderson.
A social week featureed a bridge luncheon hosted by Mire Bernard Hutchings at her home with Charley Sporteman winning both score prizes. A bundle shower for Mrs. Pat Keeney followed by luncheon drew guests including Mrs. Lindsey Waddingham. The Pierian Club met April 3 at Mrs. Wright’s with talks on National Parks and a luncheon. A separate "500" game hosted by Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Peterson honored Osditch visitor Mrs. J. How. Hatten. The Social Hour Club met at the clubhouse with playful W. W. initials contest and planned April 18 gathering hosted by the Gospills.
Milford realtor E G Kirk announced plans to construct ten stucco California Spanish style houses in the Sunset subdivision this spring. Herman Bradfield will handle contracting with construction to begin next week. Homes will be sold with payment terms similar to rent and occupy the southwest part of town.
The Minersville High School Junior Prom last Friday night was a brilliant affair. The gymnasium featured Holland windmills, tulips, dolls, white and blue streamers, and music by the Milford Orchestra. Patrons included Supt. and Mrs. Cartiste, and several local families and parents of the Junior Class.
