A Milford News article recounts Harman W. Peery's invitation for a July Utah celebration in Ogden and comments on local newspaper workers. Lee Kay director of education for the state fish and game department gave an illustrated talk at the high school detailing soil erosion causes and effects in Utah and the west. Co. V. England of the federal housing administration will visit Beaver County on Saturday April 20 to explain home repair and improvement options. The program covers financing for permanent improvements such as water and lighting systems roof repair bathroom fixtures additional rooms remodeling and more. People may arrange meetings by notifying the county agent in advance as schedules are not fixed.
Provo braces for the state music festival April 18 19 and 20 with 1500 beds added beyond entrants. Girls will stay at home and boys in dormitories under housing chair Albert Kirkpatrick. Mrs Lottie Worthen of the American Legion Auxiliary praises the response and more than 60 bands from across the intermountain region are entered along with other music groups and soloists.
Mrs J C Smith hosted a bridge club Saturday night with Mesdames Myron Lewis George Moore EB Smith George Rogers Lamar Outzen Gene Kirk M H Pool and Wayne Richards present. Mrs Lewis won high point prize Mrs Moore won high honor prize and Mrs Pool received guest prize. Mrs David S Williams hosted her club Monday night with Mrs J M Hughes receiving high point prize and Mrs William Cochrane consolation prize. Present were Mesdames Gene Kirk J M Williams George Rogers J M Hughes F Kuchenmiester William Cochrane J C Smith and L G Clay.
W. S. Schow and family departed Sunday for Enterprise to visit Mrs. Schow’s mother, stopping along the way.
Last five months bring varied precipitation across Milford and Baker. March and August totals show higher moisture this year, while Beaver mountains receive fresh heavy snow disrupting Beaver canyon traffic. Ground dryness threatens spring runoff and reservoir replenishment despite stronger precipitation. Deer in the Baker district remain in fair condition amid overgrazed range between Murphy and Big Spring washes.
Brigham Young University public service bureau members will present a varied program at Milford High School on Monday April 15 at 10 00 am The tour covers 1300 miles over a week to entertain at high schools churches and junior colleges in Richfield Panguitch Milford St George Fillmore Hurricane Kanab Huricane Las Vegas Nevada Led by Jorgensen Ralph Kirkham Lundquist Bingham Bird Thurston Broadbent and others will perform as pianist violinist cellist dramatic soloist dancer and master of ceremonies
The state legislature extended the redemption period for tax sales and reduced redemption costs for several years. The act allows property with county held tax certificates from 1928 to 1931 and 1982 to be redeemed by paying delinquent taxes plus minimal interest, with 2 percent on past delinquencies and 2 to 8 percent on later delinquencies, plus costs.
Milford High School seniors plan a trip after graduation inspired by last year’s trip to Boulder Dam and Utah parks. A senior hop on Friday night April 19 aims to raise funds for the journey, with Miss Zola Fernley as class advisor and colorful decorations reflecting sea life and sailor motifs.
Field Supervisor Read W. Can non of the emergency crop and seed loan office at Salt Lake states that applications for emergency crop loans and seed loans are now being received by the Beaver county loan committee at the FERA office at Milford. Loans will be made only to farmers unable to obtain elsewhere necessary seed supplies feed or credit. Applicants may first seek credit from the production credit association. if denied they may be eligible for the emergency fund. Largest loan this year is 500 dollars and minimum 10 dollars, limited to actual cash costs of seed fertilizers supplies and feed. Loans cover growing harvesting crops and summer fallowing and livestock feed.
Applicants must cooperate with the production control program of the AAA. Loans secured by a first lien on the financed crop or livestock. Tenants must secure landowner lien waiver. landowners not liable for tenant loan repayment. Checks issued by the Salt Lake City office. Beaver county committee clerk L. T. Harris will take applications in Milford each Wednesday afternoon.
