Milford Lions club plans a town clean up inviting representatives from local organizations to join a luncheon and form action plans led by Dr Purush. April timing uncertain as Forty-Niners ball occupies attention. Proposals include area assignments per organization and church and fire department support discussed.
John Speed Affleck resumed control of Milford Western Union Telegraph, swapping posts with J. E. Burns who leaves Milford for Blackfoot. New hours are eight to noon, one thirty to five thirty, and seven to eight in the evening, effective immediately though not in effect last Friday.
Old timers recall Milford's 1904 or 1905 gold rush when a prospector showed a nugget the size of a hen's egg. Twenty five parties chased the lure across the hills, groceries stayed up late to provision them, but no gold was found and the source remains unknown.
Governor George H. Dern will address the Hi Day assembly at 11:00 AM in Cedar City if not called out of state. The program includes massed school choirs, solos from multiple towns, a dramatic reading, and the noon barbecue. Evening events feature sunset festival with seven bands, a girls PE department dance, and a high school ray dance with a 10-piece orchestra and awards.
Mr and Mrs Robert Sherwood announce the marriage of their daughter Lillian to Reginald R McGhie of Salt Lake City. The ceremony was held in Beaver on April 1 in the presence of close friends and relatives. They will live in Provo where McGhie works at the railroad shops.
A truck delivered merchandise and fixtures for Milford’s new dry goods and clothing shop on Wednesday. Preparations begin for an upcoming opening. I Altman, formerly of Salt Lake City, is the new business figure in Milford. The News has theatre tickets for Mr and Mrs Will Davis.
Mining report from Beaver Crown in the Star district southwest of Milford notes productive operations under Jeremiah Stokes of the American Financing Corp. A Salt Lake market carload assayed 2 dollars gold, 20.3 ounces silver, 19.7 percent lead and 1.94 percent copper. Another carload yielded 25 dollars per ton gross. Work is advancing in the Parker drift on the 400 level with eighteen inches of ore being developed and higher grade water carbonate ore being stopped. Mine staff includes superintendent Frank C. Mitchell and engineer George Peterson with operations from the 400 and 500 levels.
After five months of planning and costly labor, Horn Silver mine is ready for steady ore shipments. Two carloads last week, one silver lead from the bane worked by Lew Williams and partner, and one high grade zinc ore from the main shaft, indicate ongoing output. Superintendent Kipps: more shafts and leads will be drilled. twelve sets of leasors at work. U P crews improving track. miners enjoy steam heated dressing room and a model laboratory. Frisco population estimated between 100 and 125, reflecting growth from four years ago.

Frisco Silver Lead Mining buys a Puhrbanks-Morse gasoline hoist to be installed at the Wriveo adjoining Horn Silver. Manager T. F. Block transported it from Salt Lake City. sinking at 80 feet with wing progress to accelerate. Ore yields silver lead copper gold. mining progresses with drift planned every 100 feet. favorable weather supports development.
Garret Wilkin reports a new ore vein opened at the Moscow mine on the Red Warrior and White Timestones contact at the 1560 foot level. One foot of high grade ore near the footwall and four feet of iron ore between, with crosscutting north from an 18 foot fissure. A carload of ore shipped this week, the fourth shipment in two weeks as development continues to expose productive segments on higher levels.
Mr and Mrs William Morris will head to Newhouse this week to start sheep shearing with many sheep driven to corrals for annual spring work. While away, their Milford implement store will be run by son Wallace Morris and Otto Schwob.
The Milford High School junior prom filled the gym Friday night with a white and green themed decor created by a full orchestra on a festively decorated stage. Hosts included Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Bowman Supt. and Mrs. John C. Carlisle and Principal and Mrs. W. A. Andrews. Dozens of couples attended from Beaver and nearby towns.
Mrs. Robert Sherwood and Mrs. Roy White hosted a bridal shower for Miss Lillian Sherwood at the Sherwood home on Saturday March 30. Fifteen guests attended and played 500 and other games while enjoying refreshments. Miss Sherwood received numerous gifts and good wishes from those present.
The body of Slade Hancock, a Telluride patrolman, was found after 35 days of search. Melting snow exposed part of the body near where his abandoned clothes were found, between Richfield and Fillmore in the mountains. Hancock disappeared in a blizzard February 26, and his wife was at Panguitch on the day the body was found.
Wm Cochrane son of Mr and Mrs Wi Cochrane Milford has been chosen to lead Westminster College basketball as captain next year. He starred at Milford High School and continued his scoring pace at the Salt Lake City college. His friends here cheer the selection and will follow his progress. Mrs Frank Gulnour went to Salt Lake City for a short stay. Mr and Mrs Ross Smith returned from Salt Lake where he is recovering from a broken arm suffered at work in the railroad shops. The arm required a second setting after initial treatment.
A large audience at Minersville school auditorium enjoyed the high school operetta The Gypsy Rover. Dinvetor Coffman trained the music department while Miss Deer ing designed costumes and Miss Hallie Mardock painted scenery. Sylvia Rollins and Delos Baker led the strong stage voices as the orchestra provided solid support with a second Beaver showing Saturday evening.
Fort Douglas hosts a Forty-Niners Day event with a large tent between the Arian hall and the opera house. Attractions include hula dancing, jig dancing, and a musical number. Evening features a fortune teller and casino games. afternoon will showcase band music and the Gold Rush Parade.
Mrs. Vernon Mots of Fairview California visited in the latter part of the week to prepare plans for opening a marble quarry near New House. While here she was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Morris.
Mrs Edyth Muse Farnow and Clarence R Grimshaw married Monday April 1 in Milford with Bishop W A Miller officiating. The couple will tour Southern California before settling in Milford, joining the Osborn family weddings as a noted local union.
On April 1 about fifteen people received messages claiming a friend arriving on Number 25. Dr R Parrish and the Jos R Murdock family went to the station to greet the supposed arrival. A search of each coach followed as others faced possible deception and one name, Gene Kirk, was suspected.
