The Palos-Orland unit of Recording for the Blind uses volunteers and a network of tape libraries to provide talking textbooks to blind and dyslexic students. Operated from a low building near Orland Park, the group records and ships materials nationwide, serving college, high school, and elementary students. Lois Klein, longtime volunteer and co chair, cites student success including a bar exam achievement.
Lawrence Reeves, 34, remained in guarded condition in a South Suburban hospital a week after being shot during a Midlothian lounge robbery attempt. The other man, William Johnson, 27, of Frankfort, was fatally shot. robbers fled without loot. Police investigation ongoing with no arrests announced.
Palos-Orland RFB asks for community help during RFB week November 16 22 to raise funds for tapes equipment postage and staff. Donations are accepted at Mr Eds Orland plaza Recording for the Blind office behind Orland State Bank and Tinley Park STAR-TRIBUNE office.
