Fire swept the Fishers Hill area Sunday afternoon 2 30 after Southern train 49 passed destroying a large stock of merchandise. Loss estimated at 5000 with 2100 insurance. Building owned by B E Baker a 20 year Southern and B O agent. Reformed church bell and Electric Light transformer also damaged. Jeremiah Wakeman apple cargo ruined. Baker plans to rebuild at once.

Gooney Manor Copper Co Board Meets at Front Royal
Gooney Manor Copper Co. held a board meeting in Front Royal on October 7. The stock sells for 75 dollars cash per share with few shares for sale now, sufficient funds exist to continue development. At 125 ft level the vein has been explored 60 ft with strong copper and widening thickness as work advances. A 150 horsepower boiler is being installed to power full equipment, accelerating mine operations.

The Young Men's Christian Association of Strasburg held a Tuesday evening banquet in the Shenando building. About thirty boys and young men attended along with invited clergy Revs. J D Hamaker J F Leeper J W Link and Mr C M Chiles. Ladies served at the tables including Madame C M Chiles F E Grove C B Linn Elizabeth Rudd and Miss Gertrude Jenking. The menu featured salads ham sliced beef cheese chicken sandwiches various cakes and fruit punch.
