New Oat Variety Windsor Introduced in Virginia Agriculture
Virginia farmers will gain Windsor, a new oat variety developed by T M Starling H M Camper and C W Roane. Windsor promises earlier harvest, greater winter hardiness and higher yield than Roanoke, with seed available to certified growers this fall through the Foundation Seedstocks Farm and Virginia Crop Improvement Association. Compared tests show Windsor averaging 103 bushels per acre with less lodging than Roanoke, though it remains susceptible to crown rust.
