Associated Press reports May 25 Washington where a joint declaration by American leaders argues no conflict between science and religion. Bryan criticizes the signers for vague language and urges clear stance on biblical parts they reject, urging plain speech for public understanding.
WIHTESBURG Ky May 26 The L & N railroad will absorb the Black Mountain line and its Shack Mountain branch from Pineville through Uarlan to the Lebanese border. The move, confirmed by the Interstate Commerce Commission, enables new cross country track from Big Black Mountain in Lee County to Har lan County and could transform coal shipments and passenger travel via Pineville and Middlesboro.
Two new buses on Fork Ridge road owned by Andy Moyers operate all day with trips starting at 6 am for mine and factory workers. Fred McDaniels and Andy Shipley, seasoned drivers, operate the lines. The Tizewell bus makes daily trips, leaving at 9:20 am and 6:15 pm for returns.
City council meets tonight at 7. Ellis' home hosts Mildesboro I C C No 285 at 5 pm. Bebe Daniels stars in The World's Applause at Manning Theatre starting 30 pm.
In Columbia Heights Minnesota on May 26 a joint plan by Village Judge Meadow and Chief Eisenpeter led bootleggers to surrender six moonshine stills. Authorities posted a public notice at the Columbia Heights fire station offering leniency if they turned in gear by May 19. The campaign prompted six stills to be surrendered with no arrests and the village described as saved by the peaceful crackdown.
Louisville May 28 Reverend Billy Sunday starts a six week fundraising drive to raise forty thousand dollars. The campaign aims to support his ministry and missions in Louisville.
Two bids for Middlesboro street improvements have been received from A H Rennebaum of Riddlesboro and Timmhard Construction of Knoxville with representatives from Kentucky Rock Asphalt, Humbard Construction, and others in town. Bids will be opened tonight in council session. Humbard promises work within ten days if awarded the contract and cites ongoing projects in Ta Pobette and Newport using Kentucky Rock Asphalt.

Funeral at 2 this afternoon conducted by Rev Coleman, burial in Colson cemetery with Carl Newman funeral director in charge.
The League of Women Voters will meet at the library tomorrow afternoon to discuss civic reform and registration. Chairman Avlerson urges attendance as many members could not attend earlier. meeting time was moved for convenience.
Marion Hails Peter Walker and W A Roby were arraigned in Louisville on conspiracy to rob the Samuels distillery at Deatsville. Police alleged a confession obtained under duress and questioned the leaders said to have planned the extensive Kentucky liquor robberies. All three were captured in Toledo after fleeing a fruitless distillery raid.
A Red Cross inquiry from Mobile Alabama asks for information on Leonard Blair formerly manager of the Western Union office in Mobile. Blair vanished mysteriously several weeks ago from his Mobile home leaving his family worried and officials uncertain of his whereabouts.
Ainest F. Milligan of Mannington West Virginia began a cross country trek today after leaving home March 18 traveling through Virginia and Tennessee. He plans to continue north then west aiming to reach Arizona by early fall. Milligan formerly worked at the National Bank in Mannington and did newspaper work, carrying a tent cooking gear and essentials on his 15 to 25 mile daily walks and sometimes taking rides.
May 2 Lexington reports dogs of many breeds held at the Tevington pound on the OW Frankfort pike awaiting new owners. Authorities plan to release a dog daily from imprisonment, plus 81 in fines to procure a license.

Bloodhounds were sent from Eastern Kentucky as officers join a statewide search for John Hurst, accused of fatally shooting deputy U.S. Marshal J. A. Shout Saturday night during a warrant arrest in Maulden, Ky. Captain Mullikin led bloodhounds from Lexington to Jackson County to trail the fugitive.
May 28 Clara Phillips, described as a hammer murderess, along with an escort of deputy sheriffs, is expected to arrive tomorrow in New Orleans from Honduras. She recently escaped from jail in Los Angeles after a prior confinement following a murder charge.
Twenty five applicants, mostly from Claiborne county, sat the railway mail clerk exam in room 18 of the central school building Saturday muelling. Wheeler Woodson, local civil service secretary, conducted the test. Those with qualifying grades will be placed on the eligibles list and appointments awarded to those with the highest scores. Middlesboro serves as the local exam center for this area.
The Central school auditorium hosted senior graduates in caps and gowns for a baccalaureate sermon by Rev. W. E. McClure of the M B S church. Four city ministers joined the service as the glee club sang and the faculty filled the front. The sermon urged graduates to give their best in all endeavors and for God and His kingdom.
