Middlesboro’s Rise and Fall From Arthur’s Dream
The 1889 venture of Alexander A. Artur sought to build a 100000 population industrial city in Middlesboro with timber coal and iron ore. The collapse of the Barings Bank and US banking panic halted funds, a fire hit the business district, and ore proved insufficient. Today Middlesboro is a 14000 resident tourist hub near Cumberland Gap with English heritage visible in architecture and the town’s famed golf links.

Mr and Mrs W C West of Detroit visited over the weekend with Mr and Mrs Roy West. Claude Bolinger attended the Central Singing Convention at Cave Spring Baptist Church. Mr and Mrs Carl Wall and Iv en of Detroit were called home due to the death and funeral of Mrs Leonard Alden at Red Hill Baptist Church Saturday. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon. Mr and Mrs Albert Evans le and Carolyn visited Sunday with 3 and Mrs Willis of Sweetwater Tenn.
