Monumental task for Henry Ward in Kentucky race

Former Kentucky governor candidate A B Chandler said Henry Ward faces a monumental task winning in November after Ward beat Chandler by more than 93 000 votes in a primary. Chandler warned the Democratic party of disaster and pledged to honor voters while criticizing the administration’s spending and policies. He noted his second straight primary defeat, and thanked campaign workers at Lexington.

$80 Million Paper Mill Slated for Wickliffe Kentucky

Ground will be broken for an $80 million paper mill by Ballard County along the Mississippi River near the confluence with the Ohio. West Virginia Pulp and Paper Co. plans construction with 1,000 workers during build and 300 initial jobs with a $320 million payroll. Production set for spring 1970 using industrial revenue bonds issued by the city. The plant will produce white printing and business paper, marking the company’s largest single investment. Gov. Breathitt cites Kentucky’s central location for production and distribution.

Optimists Seek One-Third of 2500 for TV Tower

Harrogate Tennessee Optimist Club official said about one third of the 2500 goal has been raised to erect a television tower to receive WLOE TV in Asheville North Carolina ABS affiliate. The tower would serve northern Claiborne County and the donation would be the only cost to area residents per the Optimists State. Contributions can be sent to the club.
