Qualls Enters Race Against Duncan For Congress Post

Roane County attorney Frank Qualls of Harriman announced his candidacy for the 2nd District seat, targeting Mayor John Duncan’s announced bid. He criticized a strong but unannounced GOP machine and pledged support for the Tennessee Valley Authority while promoting a fiscally responsible government and preservation of military strength. Qualls, a longtime Roane GOP official, is married to Peggy with four children.

Breathitt Attends Fete In His Honor

Breathitt is feted in Danville with a Governor Appreciation Day banquet honoring his $500000 allocation from the state contingent fund for the Kentucky Serial for the Deaf. The event followed a Centre College reception and tours of historic landmarks, with students at the deaf school greeting him and sharing handshakes.

Mid dlesboro Police reported four arrests for public drunkenness and breach of peace after a day of court proceedings. One minor, 11-year-old Edward Partin, was fined 14.25 for driving without a license. Frned and others, including L Raines, Morman Chadwell, Hagele Blevins, and Roy Davis, eyed court appearances on public drunkenness charges.

DentAL Clinic Bids Slated for May Invitation

Fr Knox Ky Army officials said bids will be invited May 20 for a 400000 dental clinic on Mt Knox reservation. The new building will replace temporary quarters, with completion nine years after construction starts. The project falls under the small business act and bids from nonrace firms will be excluded.

Breathitt urges faster KY village boys camps plan

Governor Breathitt pressed Finance Department to accelerate construction of boys work camps in Morgan County and near Lake Cumberland to ease overcrowding at the Lexington Center. He also asked that cottage parents be upgraded on the state payroll. He spoke with about 250 boys and toured KV facilities, noting varied opinions on therapy, staff care, and food, and invited public open house on June 8.

State official warns Mississippians against secret groups

Erle Johnston Jr. urged Mississippians to avoid affiliating with secret white supremacy groups such as the Ku Klux Klan during a civic club talk in Carton. He promoted civil rights work and warned that undercover groups could be dangerous while stressing cooperation with legally constituted enforcement agencies. State and local officials expressed alarm at vigilante white groups forming across Mississippi.
