Classic Comics fading after 30 years ends in 1972
The Classics Illustrated series stop printing new editions in March 1972 after decades of use in schools. About 800 million copies sold in 24 languages. remaining 41 of 169 titles mostly go to rural school systems. Prices rise, collectors pay hundreds for original art, and publishers cite rising costs.
