Scotia Coal Mine Seals Likely Two To Three Months
Partridge Kentucky. Preliminary air samples from Scotia Coal Co No 1 seam show the mine must remain sealed at least two to three months before recovery of 11 entombed bodies. MESA administrator Robert Barrett said tests will continue in three areas to establish a stable air trend and verify airtight seals while officials assess oxygen and gas levels for safe reopening.

City council approves varied actions and purchases
The council voted to pay 24 916 from revenue sharing for air conditioner in the assistant chief's office and to advertise bids for fire department equipment. They named three men after nine year probation, hired Lee Bird and Richard Buckner for Street Department, and allocated 730 from revenue sharing funds. Also approved 790 for February services, 1419 refunds on the occupational tax, 5294 for consulting services on bookkeeping, reappointed Kirby Smith to the Industrial Commission, invited Middlesboro Hospital administrator to hear ambulance complaints, appointed a Tax Supervisory Board, and authorized a letter of complaint to the FCC about foul language on Citizen Band radios and suspected unauthorized radios.
