Four fires emerged last night and today in Middlesboro area causing the loss of one dwelling, a barn and other damages. The four room home of Cager Herneg at Stony Fork burned around 7 p m. the Low Ash mines barn burned out. A B Gloster residence on Brentwood Road sustained small damage. a flue fire at Dr Evans residence caused scare but no damage. Evening encampment and social notices follow with local events and weather. Local forecasts show rain tonight in eastern Kentucky and colder in western portions.

Heavy sentences for two liquor law violators
Richard Buttry and Wiley Roberts were convicted of transporting and having liquor in their possession. Each received a $100 fine and costs, a sixty day jail term, and a $1000 peace bond. Judge Woods noted actual time served, car ownership questions left the confiscation action unresolved. Police arrested them on Twentieth Street Sunday night after they pleaded not guilty.

The Rev. Dr. Rutherford B. Douglas of Macon Georgia accepted the call to pastor Middlesboro Presbyterian Church at a prayer meeting last night. He will begin regular services after release from his Macon church by presbytery at the end of April. Douglas, born and educated in Kentucky, has led First Presbyterian Church in Macon for twenty one years, founding three self supporting churches and earning strong regard across denominations. The Middlesboro congregation unanimously extended the call after he preached here four weeks ago and again attended his Wednesday prayer meeting. He had also weighed offers from Texarkana Arkansas and Gainesville Georgia but chose Middlesboro.

Ford Buys Peabody Tract in Kentucky Coal Lands
Lexington March 22 Henry Por reportedly purchases 125000 acres of undeveloped coal and timber land along the Kentucky river in Clay and Leslie counties for twelve to twenty million dollars. On the first day of spring two women were charged in police court with allowing their chickens to run at large. Witnesses said the fowls invaded a plot sown in clover, scratching it up. The defendants did not deny the offense and promised to confine the birds. The judge, satisfied with the pledge, imposed no fine.
Pastor to Attend World Baptist Conference in Stockholm
The Rev. Sam P. Martin, pastor of the First Baptist church, will be sent to the Baptist World Conference in Stockholm in June. His salary was raised to 4500 this year.
