Citizens advocate new constitutional amendments to boost road funding in Bell County and provide jobs for returning soldiers. They urge approval of two measures: preserving the road fund from diversions and enabling absentee voting for absent service members, urging a Yes vote in November.
Thorn Hill residents report illnesses and home confinement for D H Bolden while noting visits from Nancy Bolden and Stella Livesay. Local trips include Morristown business and Knoxville hospital, with several townsfolk traveling to Georgia for examinations and many planning to start gardens as spring nears.
Mrs Albert Brooks and Cpl Glen Rowland visited with family including Mrs Wint Rowland and Ronnie Jean while the Owens family returned to Ohio after Mrs Owens stepfather W S Miracle died. Mrs Maxie Cowan Nell hosted Middlesboro visitors. Cpl Lowell Grear is hospitalized in Memphis. Mrs Harry Hroun and Billie Wilder have mumps. Brady Cheek and family from East Tineville visited local households.
Mrs John Cheek is recovering in Evans Hospital Middlesboro after an operation Mundy. Mrs Edd Movers is recovering and Mrs Doe Green serves as postmaster here. Visitors include Mr and Mrs Miracle and son Houston Thompson in Middlesboro, Albert Brooks in Pineville, and Mr Miracle from the J Army visiting his wife. A Friday night shower honored Mr and Mrs Harrell Nels. A house fire at the Pursifall home left Mr and Mrs Nelson with almost nothing. Cineville and Pineville visits by Opal Lee Miracle Tsom Meyers A J Brooks are noted along with Cpl Norris Bingham from Lincoln Nebraska visiting Miss Verdie Meyers.
Bell County training session for the Colored Homemakers Clubs was held at the Kentucky Utilities office in Pineville on March 14. Mrs. Maddox, Bell County president, led a lesson titled Let Dry Suds Do The Work, the first in a home management series, with demonstrations on dry suds for cleaning painted woodwork walls lamps shades upholstery and rugs. Bell County now has three colored Homemaker groups: Henry Mitchell Club Middlesboro Goodwill Club West Pineville and St Creek Colored Club.
