Middlesboro Red Cross Chapter reports extensive community training and service efforts. They completed Standard First Aid courses for park employees and Rangers, trained eleven Girl Scout leaders, aided Brownie Scouts, and taught Junior First Aid to seventh graders with 134 completing. An Advance First Aid class ran under Philip Arthur. From July 1 to December 31, 1957, the chapter aided 108 families and men in the Armed Forces, 50 veterans, and 44 civilians. The Junior Red Cross unit at Middlesboro Junior High is reborn under Mrs. King with school and community support. Home Nursing staff secured a permanent classroom and offered Civil Defense nursing instruction, while eighth graders participated in a simplified Home Nursing course with 124 students. The chapter also supplied groceries to those housed at the Baptist Church during the gas shortage. The annual meeting is set for March 27 at 7:30 in the Red Cross room.
