Hijacker Taken After Shootout
In Urich Switzerland an Italian hijacker named Luciano Porcaro, 17, was overpowered by two Swiss officers disguised as pilots after a ransom bid and a long multi city flight. None of the 22 hostages were hurt during the seizure and the plane returned to the runway where police arrested the attacker. Porcaro had earlier forced the Iberia Airlines Boeing 727 to divert from Warsaw to Spain and Ivory Coast to pick up his daughters before continuing toward Turin. The event involved a string of cities including Warsaw Prague Abidjan and Zurich as authorities pursued the dramatic hijack.
