Kentucky House considers unemployment, salaries bills unsure paths

In Frankfort the Kentucky House debated a set of measures including an unemployment compensation raise from 37 to 40 a week and a cap removal on state department head salaries. Also on the docket was a bingo bill allowing county option under local referendums, plus funding for a Senate race and Cumberland Gap National Historical Park expansion.

Obituary for Marshal Brooks Jr at Meldrum Baptist Church

Funeral services for Marshal Brooks Jr of Meldrum City, who died March 16, 1962, were held at 2 4 p.m. Tuesday March 13 at Meldrum Baptist Church with Rev Bill Vance officiating. Pallbearers included Doyle Rive, Fugeme Wyatt, Bill Clitford Rive, Lester Ties Ca ford Rice Jr, Andy Lane, and David Lane. Flower bearers were heads of the family. Interment followed at Yellow Jt Cemetery. Full military honors were conferred at the graveside. Cawood Funeral Home managed arrangements.

Defense study group formed on military pay raises

The Defense Department on Wednesday created a study group to consider military pay raises. The panel is headed by Assistant Secretary Carlisle P. Runge and will report to President Kennedy’s panel on matter of salary systems before November.

Council Meet Stated In Pine Mountain Ky

State Attorney General John Breckinridge will speak March 21 at a regional Council of the Southern Mountains meeting at Pine Mountain Settlement School. His talk titled Citizen Responsibility in Government and Political Affairs follows a Kentucky Rental Group spring meeting with a panel on The Bares Role in Community Affairs moderated by Rev. Local court fines and verdicts in drunken driving case

Thompson continued from page one listing charges for operating a car with suspended privilege and drunken driving. James F. Cox received 3125 and 30 days in jail. Audrey Paul Dean faced improper equipment with $10. Dick Nelms fined $250 and six months suspended jail. Roy Cain found not guilty on reckless driving.

Four Fined After Hotel Whiskey Raid Reported

Sheriff Harry Ball said today that nine officers searched a hotel for whiskey for about 40 minutes between 5 and 3 p.m. The incident involved a dry mining era phrase misread in prior report.
