Ambassador Henry Cabot Lodge captured a stunning write-in victory in New Hampshire’s Republican presidential primary outrunning Barry Goldwater and Nelson Rockefeller. The late winter storm limited turnout to about 180,000 as Nixon and Smith followed, with Johnson and Kennedy leading the Democratic vice president race.

Flooding Forcing Thousands From Louisville Area

Thousands in Louisville area southwest of the city evacuated as the Ohio River rose toward a crest near historic levels. Red Cross mobilized to move up to 1,000 residents per night, with 23 Kentucky counties affected and Fort Knox aiding evacuations. West Point saw the largest exodus as floodwaters threatened roads and homes, while Louisville prepared pumping stations and limited gate openings to manage rising waters.

Third Son Born to Queen at Buckingham Palace

Queen Elizabeth II and her newborn third son are reported both well after a Tuesday night birth at Buckingham Palace. The unnamed infant weighed five pounds and five ounces, born five days early, as doctors noted the queen had a comfortable night. Prince Philip plans to fly to Athens to attend King Paul of Greece's funeral.

Two Fire Calls Are Answered in Middleshorn

Middleshorn Fire Department answered two minor fires Monday evening. At 3rd Street and Cumberland Avenue a car fire caused by faulty wiring did minimal damage. the car belonged to Sue England. A second call reported a grass fire at Spam to South 20th Street. Chief Ted Yeary released the details today.

Lottery embezzler in Poland jailed for gambling debts

Warsaw police report Marian Ko fel was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison and fined $20.44 after embezzling $54,000 to pay gambling debts. He sold 16 state owned threshing machines, 13 tractors and 23 horse carts during 1962 63 to raise funds.

Rights Supporters May Try to Force Senate Showdown

FRANKFORT KY The sponsor of public accommodations legislation may push for a showdown on HS 197 seeking to ban discrimination in places of public accommodations. Rep Norbert Blume says he could move to bypass the Rules Committee to force an open House vote. Senate leadership could bring the bill out of committee when deemed proper. Governor Breathitt warns against inaction, urging a special order of business and backing a compromise measure to protect basic rights. He vows to rescind a Civil Rights order by his predecessor to reflect a permanent solution. The speaker emphasizes the need to defend Kentuckians from arbitrary power and ensure freedom from discrimination based on skin color.
