Androcles and the Lion staged in Middlesboro

A two act professional production by Strawbridge, with Aristide Delil as Androcles, Michael Shaw as the loyal lion, Irma Rogers in support, Gavin MacLeod in the bully role, and Robert Hawkins as Emperor. The show, directed by Larry Parke, debuts at Duke Hall auditorium in Middlesboro with tickets 23 cents for children and 50 cents for adults.

Revival Set In Pineville at First Baptist Church

The First Baptist Church of Pineville will start a revival series on Sunday March 20 and run through Saturday March 27 with Rev Vincent Cery the Baptist evangelist as speaker and Rev Carl Namer as song leader. Cervera previously led revivals in 1954 that added 1058 members across Southern churches and drew crowds over 3,000 in a five week revival in Barnwell. Services begin 518 am and 7 30 pm daily at the church.

Middlesboro Safety Patrol Years of Service and Roles

Fifteen Middlesboro students in grades 6 7 and 8 form the safety patrol chosen for character and leadership. They supervise crossings at midday and 3 30 pm under supervision of Mrs Ralph Hippart safety patrol chairman. Sean Cole and Busey Spine serve as captain and lieutenant. A Kentucky highway patrolman led a two hour training and will return to show safety film to students at Ki Jurtar High and High School. Each patrol boy wears helmet badge and is approved by the American Automobile Association and the city. They visit LHTA monthly for a movie and meet at Middlesboro Kiwanis for lunch on Thursdays. The patrol will be continued through the end of the school year with a committee selecting a safety patrolman to be announced and honored with the group. Chief of Police Mary Horned commends the patrol as a tremendous help to police and avoids injuries among school children.

Eleven Seated On Jelke Jury In Mickey Jelke Case

New York jury pool for the Mickey Jelke case was seated with eleven jurors including three women as the panel began. The court ran out of prospective jurors and recessed until Monday. One more juror and alternates were to be chosen. names mentioned include George F. Servin and Allan Wahlberg.

Burley Tobacco Policy Debate Opens in Washington

In Washington on March 10 a joint Senate and House subcommittee hearing gathered 10 growers to discuss the Burley tobacco surplus. Proposals ranged from limiting plants per farm to abandoning minimum acreage. interstate disputes over Tennessee Virginia and Kentucky production and the shift to poundage or dual poundage and acreage bases were debated along with increasing marketing penalties and enforcement for production controls.

Infant son of John and Doris Dean of Powder Springs Tennessee died at birth. Survivors include his grandparents and two sisters. Funeral held this afternoon at Shannon Cemetery in Hancock County. Missing dog Skippy returns home after 38 days

Skippy a battle mongrel dog from Bitexi Mississippi vanished with his owner Bill Sewell during a visit to relatives. After 38 days he reappeared one evening at the front door of the James Weilopp home where he had stayed just one day.
