Pineville star Woods poured in 19 of 21 team points as Jana Wands defends Penny Buell and Isabelle Spriggs in a 5st District championship clash last night.
Barbourville faces Knox Central in a boys district final while Knox Central girls challenge Corbin. Central surged to a 74-53 victory over Corbin in the boys semifinal as Gregory Williams led Central with 19 points and Messer added 12 while Hopkins topped Corbin with 20.
Radio and TV listings show a dense slate across multiple stations including WMIK FM WHAS and WANO. Programs feature sports talk, bowling, golf, fishing, and college football with notable names like Howard Cosell and Ray Mears appearing in varied time slots through the weekend.
Middlesboro girls dominate Pineville 62 to 21 to claim the District 51 championship at Bell High. Isabelle Spriggs scores 20 for Middlesboro with strong contributions from Kristie Hanford and Debbie Wakin. Jana Woods leads Pineville with 14. Both teams advance to regional play starting Saturday at Middlesboro High School.
Middlesboro High School will conduct the 18th Region boys and girls tournaments with rounds Tuesday through next Saturday for boys and Saturday morning through Tuesday week for girls. Drawings to determine pairings occur Sunday afternoon. five rounds lead to a state bid in Louisville. Ten teams from districts including Red Bird Lone Jack Clay County Barbourville Cumberland Middlesboro Pineville Corbin Clay Harlan will participate. Marcus Marcum serves as Tourney Director. adult admission is two dollars with no reentry.
Knox Central beat Whitley County 48 39 in girls action and Knox Central won 74 53 in boys play. Cawood topped Lynch 33 32 in girls with 39 52 overtime boys win. Sard District Whitesburg 54 edged Letcher 52 in overtime boys. Sith District Buckhurn 58 edged Hazard 56 in overtime girls. Leslie County routed Hazard 67.
