The state bank has operated twenty years with capital and surplus of fifteen thousand dollars each.

Funds Raised for New Sunday School Building at First Baptist
About twenty thousand dollars was raised yesterday morning at the First Baptist church toward a new brick Sunday School building. Rev. Sam P. Martin led the pulpit drive with audience pledges, bringing the total to twenty three thousand dollars including three thousand already paid. EB. Eight Hour Day Adopted by Cumberland Telephone Amalgam
An eight hour day for linemen repairmen and outside workers of the Cumberland Telephone and Telegraph Company took effect here and in other company districts across nine Southern states on March 1. A similar rule for women operators was enacted four years ago. The new policy excludes clerks and others in company offices. Workers receive Saturday afternoons off, except in winter. Overtime pays time and a half for hours beyond eight per day.
