A special communion service for civil rights march participants will be held at the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Frankfort on Thursday. The service will be led by Bishop C. Gresham Marmion of the Diocese of Kentucky and The Very Rev. Robert W. Still of Christ Church Cathedral Louisville.

Virginia House faces a clash over a dramatic road revenue package aimed at raising 43.2 million for two years. Bills hike license plates to 15 and 20 dollars and boost driver permits, with an emergency clause requiring a four-fifths vote. Republicans oppose the emergency clause, arguing against new taxes this biennium, while several Democrats back the GOP stance. If passed without the clause, tag increases would take effect next year before the gubernatorial race. UPI reports Roe Mosley 100 years old meekly gave $40 to a knife wielding bandit on Monday. He later told police he could have fought but preferred to yield, saying he leaned toward giving the edge to the knife.
Richard J. Clendenen named Ralph Wilson of Glasgow as assistant superintendent of Kentucky Village Juvenile Detention Center. Wilson, 38, a Harlan native, has worked at the state Tuberculosis Hospital in Glasgow for six years. The appointment follows recent criticism from a Fayette County grand jury.
