He spoke against the farm credits bill last night in the House and suffered a stroke of apoplexy. A fierce Tammany Hall partisan and Irish freedom advocate he opposed Prohibition and the Wolcott act. He was born in Ireland and first elected to Congress in 1887.
Pineville March 1 the grand jury finished its report after sessions since Monday Most notable finding indicts Mike Howard for murder in the February 11 shooting at his Straight Creek home He posted 5000 bond and faces trial next Wednesday The docket grows to seven murder related cases with many felonies still in process Other verdicts include Ed Green fined 100 and 40 days for selling liquor Joe Rhales fined 50 and 30 days for drawing a deadly weapon Joe Dozier fined 100 and 80 days for liquor related charges with mixed verdicts overall

Gunter of Knoxville president of the Southern Appalachian Coal Operators Association was the guest of TP. Scales and J. M. Miller at the country club yesterday. He, a charter member of the club, expressed great pleasure with the golf course.

Accused of burglaries in Tennessee, John Carroll of Tazewell was killed by a posse in Washburn after an armed encounter with Constable Frye and nine posse members. Wiley Lakins was wounded. Carroll died in a farmer's feed house nearby.
Federal mobilization agent W B Saylor and deputies seized six gallons of whiskey and a moonshine still at Jones Creek on Saturday. Wilson Burkhart and Wright Wynn, alleged owners, were arrested and bound over to federal court.

Reynolds allegedly tried to leave with the pot after offering to sell it, sparking a street scuffle before Army sergeant George Burk intervened. Police Yeary and DeBurk arrested both men for disorderly conduct, with a police court trial set for Monday.
For months rumors spread of a new wholesale dry goods firm in Middlesboro. Local businessmen confirm the establishment is certain and details will be finalized soon. No location or firm name has been decided and organization plans remain incomplete.

Federal agents and local police seized seven half gallon jars of whiskey at Tim Ball Instinct’s home during a raid led by W B Saylor with assistance from White Crabtree and Watkins. Ball was arrested for a preliminary hearing before Judge J C Rollins in Pineville.
