Daily News Wins Pair Last Night

Daily News swept a double header from Perma Pipe in Babe Ruth play. The first game ended 12 to 10 after two extra innings as Daily News rallied from a 2-0 deficit, with Gibbons driving in four and Evans delivering key hits. In the second game Perma Pipe led 1-0 until Daily News pushed two runs in the seventh, tied it on an error in the last, then Evans delivered a ninth inning single for the winning run with Ayers scoring the decisive run in extras.

Ashland Wins State Tournament Title in Kentucky

Ashland Tomcats secure their second straight Kentucky High School Baseball Tournament championship by defeating Ft. Knox 7-2 in Lexington. Pitcher Bill Sieweke starred after Bob Lynch quelled a first inning rally, with Ashland scoring four in the second and three more in the fourth aided by three Ft. Knox errors. Toby Tolbert led the offense with a single and a triple driving in three runs.
