London July 31 The Inter allied Conference expert committee reviewing French compromise proposals plans to end the Dawes plan deadlock over German loans. Officials predicted the French ideas with minor changes will likely be acceptable to the full conference after British members withdrew their amendment. A delegate cited the great difficulty remaining.
Kiwanis members inspected a cave near the proposed Lincoln National Park site this afternoon. The luncheon discussed that such a trip would aid the upcoming National Park committee visit, with Prof. Andrews praising local scenery as rivaling the West’s best. He urged the preserve here. Secretary Work and associates may be welcomed when plans are formed.

Knoxville July 31 A Middlestore woman Mime Pratt seeks her son Ermand Lewis who left home some time ago. She says he was last heard from in Knoxville ten weeks ago. The boy is about five feet eight inches, weighs 113 pounds, with light yellow hair blue eyes and a fair complexion. He is slightly deaf.
Pineville and Middlesboro residents plan a full day of road work to improve the four mile Pineville Middlesboro road to the Clerk Creek Springs encampment. Kiwanis and local business people are expected to participate, with many Middlesboro men joining. The route serves visitors to the yearly State Baptist Encampment at Clear Creek Springs, making timely upkeep important.

LEIPSIC Germany July 31 Summer vacation travel has increased German railway traffic from 65 percent of prewar conditions to 65 percent so far as the number of trains is concerned. It is claimed that passenger business is run at and only freight traffic pays. Before the war the average speed of fast trains was 53.56 miles an hour while at present the average speed is 50. Owing to the transportation fixes passenger fares are about 50 percent above prewar rates.
Covington reports extensive crop damage from wind hail and rain. a silo collapsed and orchards suffered losses. Wheat fields in portions of the area were leveled while corn and wheat crops suffered damage across the region. M F Brown went to Knoxville after learning of his sister Lettie Brown's death at 1 PM today.
New York July 31 A woman was killed and twenty seven others injured, thirteen seriously, when several cars of an express Long Island Railroad train derailed in Woodside. The rear cars sideswiped an electric locomotive on an adjacent track as a switch failed. Thirteen seriously injured were moved to Bellevue Hospital after an ambulance train carried them from Pennsylvania Station. others were sent to St John’s Hospital and Flu rings Hospital.
Bar on Emar Banily, a member of Hungary’s old noble family, turned thief amid economic war strains. Using access to elite homes, he stole small valuables and silver objects, including a valuable watch. Caught in Budapest after fleeing Lichenburgen, he confessed to ten thefts.
Cincinnati July 41 Senator Robert M LaFollette and Burton K Wheeler independent presidential and vice presidential candidates won endorsement today from the executive board of the Brotherhood of Railway and Steamship Clerks Freight Handlers and Express Station Employees. The board endorsed the Progressive political action platform adopted at Cleveland on July 4 and urged backing of the program.

The trip included supporters on board and referenced the late President Cleveland aged 69 in relation to the event.

Reports from Frankfort say the 1920 General Assembly created the Western Kentucky subexperiment station of the University of Kentucky Agricultural Station near Princeton Caldwell County on a 400 acre donated tract. Senator T H King of Princeton shepherded the bill, Gov Fields signed it. An annual appropriation of $20,000 funds the project for agricultural, horticultural, and animal husbandry work.
City tax books will be open for 102 lay payments about August 1 according to city collector Frank Kerns. Preparation work is under way with clerical help. Taxpayers this year will pay 20 per hundred, ten cents per hundred over last year. Exact start date will be announced later.
