The Bell County Health Department completes its new building on Park Avenue Pineville and will open to the public Friday July 2% with an Open House. The facility includes police space day rooms storage rooms and other facilities as health officers move from the Courthouse.
In Panmunjom a new session failed to break the long deadlock in Korea truce negotiations. Officials and a Peiping radio broadcast signaled no progress on POW issues. United Nations and Soviet representatives offered limited comments as talks continued amid secrecy and muted optimism.
The American Legion convention in town will open officially Monday with advance meetings of Kentucky department officials. More than 2,000 Legionnaires are expected to arrive by Monday afternoon for the big convention parade amid preparations in Monty-and-Eight era terminology.
District 24 of Rotary International plans its annual convention in Middlesboro Kentucky with anticipated attendance of about 4 Rotarians. In Louisimill Ky July 5 health officials report at least five polio cases statewide with Jefferson County not yet reported, bringing total cases on record to 105. An eight year old Ghie County boy died, and ten more polio cases in Jefferson County raised annual totals to eleven.
A crash on 2-H south of Pineville near Big Log Mountain killed Jack Ulendell, 45, of Middlesboro, instantly and fatally injured Floyd Bullock, 48, of Pineville. Bullock died at Pineville Community Hospital after the Jeep like wreck at 7 a.m. Witnesses described the Chevrolet bucking as if brakes stuck, the car overturning and crushing the top before landing upright. Both men were trapped, hauled out, and transported to funeral homes as arrangements were pending.
In Pineville Kentucky July 19 a 40 year old man Hubbard fought officers while fleeing bicycle theft arrest. He cut Patrolman Lockard and cab driver Clant McCoy with a pocket knife and fled toward the freight depot. Hubbard was captured after a chase toward Corbin, charged with malicious cutting and wounding, with further bicycle theft charges and commitment to a state asylum noted by Chief Jim Bingham.

Stelyi Sith of Kentucky with the 25th Infantry in Korea during the early 1950s, plus Private George Collett Jr of Pineville taking part in Fort Lewis drills and Operation Signpost.
