Middleshore youth join 65 children from 27 Kentucky counties in the first of three two week sessions at Camp Kysoe Carrollton for physically handicapped and blind youths. Jail Term Is Stayed For Civil Rights Leaders
Washington UPI Justice Patter Stewart of the US Supreme Court stayed for at least three months a court mandate that would have jailed Rev. Martin Luther King Jr and seven other civil rights leaders for contempt in Birmingham Alabama. The leaders had lost an appeal to the high court but petitioned for reconsideration with a ruling due after the court’s current recess. The convictions stem from violations of a 1963 injunction against demonstrations in Birmingham during civil rights protests.
