Weekend Traffic Accidents Injure Eight in Best County
Weekend crashes across Bell and Knox counties left eight injured and six hospitalized. In Kentucky on U S 25E north of Pineville a three car wreck Sunday morning near the Knox County line sent a New Castle woman in serious condition to Saint Marys Hospital. Also injured were two more sons and several others treated for various injuries. The chain of events began as Hugh Wilson Berry attempted to pass a truck driven by Clarence Conder Peace. Berry struck the west shoulder, swerved, and collided with McQuéen and her car. The milk truck veered down a bank toward the Cumberland River. Nine people were involved, with three hospitalized for head, hip, and leg injuries. Other incidents included a two car wreck on Ky. 4 near Fonde injuring Jamed Tribell and Lawrence Robbins, and a southbound crash on U S 25E injuring Mrs. Robert Johns of Daytona Beach Florida.

Guardsmen Halt Crowd In Omaha Riot Breakup
National Guardsmen in riot gear were deployed in Omaha Nebraska to disperse a crowd of Black residents in the North Side near 24th Street and a supermarket. At least nine people were arrested as guardsmen cleared the area without violence after midnight, remaining on duty for about five hours before returning to their armory. Police reports say helmeted officers broke up a separate crowd of about 1 000 near the supermarket while efforts continued to restore calm at dawn.

One Wreck and Theft Reported in Local Court
Middlesboro police logged a holiday weekend with one wreck report and a theft investigation. Virgil Renfro reported $125 in clothing stolen from his car near Cudjo's Cave on June 27. Several defendants appeared in court, with charges ranging from speeding and drunkenness to reckless driving and theft of tools, and many cases set for July or October term.

Branscom Injured By Mine Scraper Near Fonde Mountain
Dewey Branscom, coacher of the LB Coal Company, sustained injuries to both feet while a scraper blade caught his feet at the LP Mine in Rock House Hollow toward Fonde Mountain. He was checking the scraper when it swung, leaving him with toes cut and broken and safely-toed shoes likely preventing more serious harm. He is in satisfactory condition at Middlesboro Hospital.
