Rev Sam P Martin preached that salvation glorifies God at the First Baptist Church as the revival closed last night. Two girls joined the church, a large crowd attended despite bad weather, and about fifty formed the Soul Winner's Band with Fev Powell chosen as leader.
The First Presbyterian Church hosted Dr. Trigg Thomas whose sermons drew a crowded crowd despite rain. He preached on The Only Foundation and Life Among the Soldiers in the Argonne Forest. An ex-soldier and high school audience figures into the week as Kiwanis and other events are scheduled.
Chief H B Ball told a Bible class that liquor causes all violations and that arrests have fallen from 150 to 65 per month with officer cooperation in Claiborne and Lee counties. He said Diddlesboro’s liquor supply stems from those counties and could be stopped. Hackney Company sues Ed Shackelford for 70292. interest requested from Jan 10 1919. Mrs Johnnie Perrion files for divorce from John Terrien, alleging abandonment in 1922 after residence in Barbourville since 1911.
Horace Lewis, a clerk at Shelvurne rag Go, was summoned to Lewisville Saturday by the death of his father J. M. Lewis who had been ill for several days.
Civil court convened at 9 AM with an opening prayer by Rev Tass 4A Thomas. The evangelist warned against arguing over unclear Bible issues and promised to speak on Virgin Birth and Immortality of the Soul tomorrow. Judge J G Forrester praised Thomas’ court remarks. Poultry experts N C Warters Meg Oliver Tait will survey Middlesboro area poultry and advise raisers on feeding and management with support from W R Strange Co.

Otto Brown, manager of the Manning theater, says Wallace Reid pictures will continue to be shown until current contracts expire. He notes that despite Reid’s death some patrons still want to see his films while others object, but overall producers and exhibitors have not yet settled on a new attitude toward his posthumous releases.
J Lyman plans to open a new clothing store around February 1 in a vacant room that formerly housed the Wabash restaurant. The shop will offer a full line of men’s furnishings, including outerwear, shoes, and related items, following his recent role as a manager at a local clothing store.
A hotel fire in Pittsburgh killed five people including Mrs. Joan Winnie and two children of Davies proprietor Thos Davies. The blaze caused about $15,000 in property loss and its cause was still undetermined.
Bruce Hill of Middesbaro was arrested Friday in Pineville on a charge of possessing intoxicating liquors. Bail was set at 200 dollars by Judge J G Rolling, with trial scheduled for the May term of court at London.
Denneville January 24 Sheriff Marth Green and Jim Coling arrested Fred Napper at Wonmmile and turned him over to Jonesville police. Napper is held in connection with the July 3 Rose Hill murder of Joe Givens, a Holy Roller preacher who killed Charles Napper before fleeing by train to Exving where he was killed. Givens’s son Fred Napper maintains innocence but claims to know who killed him.
Postmaster Chas E. Cooke urges owners of 1918 War Savings stamps to exchange them for Treasury Certificates or redeem for cash. Stamps maturing January 1 yield no interest if left idle. many holders have not redeemed. The Post Office now offers cash redemption or Treasury Certificates as a safe investment option.

About 2,000,000 tons of coal have been signed for a new railroad to connect the Clover Park field head to the Guover Fork field. W. B. Landrum, a Harlan coal broker, cited strong interest with a 5 cent per ton guarantee for a set term. Engineers have begun a preliminary survey on Tack Branch for a potential tunnel, under Baltimore interests, while some operators doubt final construction.
Jan 22 Knoxville reports slow coal production across the Southern Appalachian field. R. Howe, secretary of the Southern Appalachian Coal Operators' Association, cites lack of cars and inadequate railroad capacity as key factors. He notes some mines run only half time despite fair domestic demand and prices.
Mrs John Krig ger, 52, died at her Nineteenth Street home at 6 15 Saturday evening. Funeral services were held at 2 pm today and burial to be in Doncaster. Survived by husband John Krig ger of Hazard, mother Mrs W Partin of Middlesburg, son Jim Turner of Lexington, daughter Mrs Murphy Keyes of Hazard, and sisters Mrs J B Bull of Knotwile and Mrs Arthur Breeze of Middlesberg.
